He just turned 50 in January, so that’s when medical professionals really start emphasizing improving the things you can control through exercise and diet. The changes in his appearance seem to start showing this Spring, so he could have legitimately changed things and lost the weight. Being in a caloric deficit and training will change your comp and at 50, he’d likely lose muscle mass as well.
