What do you do?

My son does this for Siemen's. Busy, busy job.
I could be wrong but controls engineers are usually in high demand.

My brother in law is working in the AGV sector. Crazy how it feels like a CS degree is pointless now. Would point my kid towards the hardware side if he had interest, although I’m sure the design/production side will be overtaken by AI as well eventually.

Nice 2 year call back. Reckon I can give an update, I ended up going back to an hourly telecom/IT job and moving back “home” near the Kansas/Nebraska state line.

It’s so nice to be back closer to family and out of the bigger towns, we were in Columbia, Mo. We welcomed our second daughter and are currently updating our ancient house.

Started the job Nov 2023 and while it pays well for what I do, it isn’t enough for my greedy ass and there is no room for advancement other than maybe 1 tier, which isn’t much. Been exploring remote roles but can’t get so much as a callback for my history due to the flooded market of telecom (I assume, I’m also not a great resume creator).

I have an opportunity to go back to sales remotely at a 100% commission that has very high promise, but is a bit risky. Strongly leaning towards doing it as it has the ability to pay more than anything else I can do.

Other than that just fuckin around trying to stay sane with 2 daughters under 3. The one turns 3 in a few weeks. Probly run into a few of ya in KC next week but won’t be able go to the tailgate, we have a whole gaggle of us.

Cheers.

Anyone on here work in either the Private Equity or Finance/Treasury/Supply Chain space for large corporates ($100M+ revenue) and interested in connecting?

My team optimizes working capital by unlocking trapped cash and implements operational improvements to sustain the cash release that also often result in EBITDA benefits. The cash benefit is often ~10% of annual revenue but can be higher/lower based on circumstances.

Would love to connect with any Husker fans in this space where the relationship could be mutually beneficial.
Is this your job?

I'm a retired world class athlete that once played baseball for a MLB team while also playing in the NFL at the same time. Currently, I pride myself in being a world class father, insurance spokesperson, making it through my latest health crisis, while simultaneously coaching a D1 sport.

Sales can pay REALLY well (returning to "carrying a bag" from leadership roles allowed me to retire at 53), but there's one simple rule to remember: Sales people are like baseball managers - they're hired to be fired.

Eventually, they'll raise your quota to a point where the money dries up or you can't make the nut, and boom - gone. I can't tell you how many times I heard, "The new comp plan will be really good for you!" Bullbutter. I was making a LOT more than you were and it pissed you off, boss. Cut the crap.

Just make sure you build your network along the way so if/when the inevitable happens, you've got contingencies and alternatives in place. And enjoy the thrill of the chase, working the room, and cashing fat checks.

I was a touring musician for 15 years, then Covid happened, and touring became a nightmare, so I jumped ship. Also, our singer was a dick, and we were all sick of his shit.

Now I'm a creative director for a global brand. I art direct our collaborations with brands like Gucci, Vans, Omega, Starbucks, Fender, Rolling Stone, etc.
Can you get a discount on a Seamaster or what!?
