Is that a thread on here? I would enjoy reading that breakdown. Just earlier today I read about their DC last year who bolted to Miami after one season for the Gophers. The coach they promoted to replace him looks to be the most inexperienced DC Fleck has ever worked with with zero prior coordinator experience.

To keep this post on topic, I'd go B for an 8-4 season. 9-4 might bump it to B+. I personally feel like it's a program that has potential to go 9-3 in the regular season as the team finally starts winning toss up games. Between Michigan, USC, Penn State, and Cockeye, we take one of three, or maybe go 2-2 and lay an egg elsewhere.

From a progress standpoint, with a bowl game included, it would be hard to look at a potential 8-5 season and call that a big jump following the adjustments made after a 7-6 campaign the year before.

I feel like getting Holgorsen for the full season and giving him full autonomy and replacing an abysmal special teams that definitely cost us multiple games should warrent a higher jump, even if the defense takes a step back.
Yeah - there are several posts in the "Our 2025 Season Predictions" thread. Most focus on dogshit QB, portal hit them hard, diminished OL, and then mix in your take on the D being hampered by a no-experience DC...

I have us going 8-4 I think, flirted with 9-3 but would have to see it to believe it first.

Losses to: Michigan, Minnesota, USC, and Penn St.

FWIW, Minnesota is a toss up to me but track record tells me they somehow drop that one.

If I'm capping the season I say we're dogs to michigan state (+1), Minnesota (+4), and USC (+9.5) and Penn State (+13.5) on the road. Michigan might be a pk or -1. 8-4 with that slate tells me 8-4 is closer to the ceiling than a lot of you may realize

I dont think we'll be a dog to Minn. We may very well lose to them but think we'll be -3ish.

The biggest thing for this team is to overcome the mental hurdle of losing the close games. We can all look pre-season and say to ourselves " we have the potential to beat them " and mark it down as a W. The reality is we still need to see proof that we are done shitting the bed late in games.

Would be mildly disappointed but not surprised with 7 wins
Would call it significant progress and think the benchmark should be winning 8
Very happy winning 9
over the moon winning 10+

Reasons for optimism :
Raiola in Year 2 with experience under his belt
A nice WR core
improved O-Line
Holgerson as OC

Or Michigan State. We're FPI #25, they're FPI #59, and it's a home game

Again we could lose but you're cucking @Tonkasker
I didn't even catch the "state" read that as Michigan. Michigan we'll probably be slight dogs to unless they look like shit to start and we beat the shit out of the non cons.

Surely there has to be lines for these games out there somewhere.

I think they're closer to 45. Little underrated imo. I think it's a good matchup for us but a bad spot. First road trip always is

Do you really think it would be -8 or more in Lincoln? I'd put it at -6.5

I'd be shocked if we were favored on a friday night in a place we always play like shit in against a one loss team receiving AP votes.

That sounds about right. I do think we will be favored against MSU though, at least where we sit today

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Minn was favored. I'd think Minn -2.5 or so

I think you're overestimating the roster if you see 8-4 as underachieving

Imo this is an 8-4 roster, not a playoff roster. There are probably 18-22 teams with better rosters. Sure they're not on the schedule but it's still an extremely young team that will have a dozen sophomores starting by end of year. Experience + talent = execution. There will be hiccups

A top 12 power rated team probably has a 9.5 win total with this schedule.
Fair point about us being fairly young but we also have our star starting qb going into year 2 which should help a ton. I also think every team is beatable outside of MAYBE PSU. I would take almost any top 12 power team to be 10-2 or better with this schedule

Can't believe after the wild stuff you guys have seen over the past decade that youd be unhappy with the best season since Bo

This is a losing program. 8-4 is turning a significant corner
I can't figure out if it's the people that are silver spooners and they're delusional, or if they're losers and have no idea how difficult it is to win 9+ games in college football.

Probably a combination of both. Then there's people like King Kong on IN that bitches about literally everything it seems. What a way to live.

Is he a star? I think he’s got day 1 upside but he’s got a ton to prove if that’s the case this year
