You have to change hearts and minds (losers mentality, buy in), get the team fundamentally sound, coach the assistant coaches so everyone is on the same page offensively and defensively, and off-season work (strength, conditioning, teaching, etc.). As a head coach, you don’t get to have bad days. High energy, constantly selling yourself and your vision. That is just high school. Add recruiting and all the other crap that comes with college like the glad handing, the gatherings, the speeches.

All that said, not a chance I would take a head coaching gig (if I were Saban) that isn’t already a winner. You are starting with a good hand, easier to get to a great hand. But, that’s just me.
