there’s no skill in the punch out. That’s penal architecture. I don’t disagree that it’s one way to challenge players, but it’s not the best way. You can create the same kind of challenge with more strategic or even heroic architecture.
I’m sorry to tell you this but if you feel that way you should go design some courses. Oakmont has no trees on it. It's defense is the rough. If they played it at its normal 2.5” we would see 30 under

If you think oakmont’s only defense is the rough, you’d be wrong. Its greens, its length, its topography, its 300 bunkers, and its ditches provide the bulk of the defense.

As for players shooting -30 if the rough was mown at 2.5”, all the National championships they’ve ever hosted, only 27 people TOTAL finished under par. JJ spaun made it 28 because he sunk an 60’ bomb on the final hole. Out of ~1500 people. Im not proposing lowering the rough to 2.5”, but even then the scores wouldn’t sniff -30. That’s laughable. With the rain they’ve had this spring, mowing it at 4” would’ve been an ample test, might’ve given guys a couple more reasons to try a heroic recovery, and the winning score might be -3 or -4. Or maybe not.

It was 7300 yards and not every course is a flat walk in the park on the PGA. Those are normal things. Yes the greens are wild but it’s funny how you can complain about it being a putting contest and then name more than one thing you would consider Oakmonts defense. Hopefully this week someone at the travelers will shoot -31 because that seems to be the only thing that entertains you.

At this point I’m not sure if you’re purposefully trolling or just don’t understand a word I’ve said. Which is fine. You like the rough. I get it. We don’t need to keep going.

I am an idiot and somehow lost my SW the other day and apparently someone decided to keep it. I should probably get a new one because I’m golfing with @lee_carvallo_12 tomorrow and am already terrible when I have my full set.

Should I just get the same one again (AI Smoke HL) or try a different one?
Probably...but you can't go wrong with either Cleveland or Vokey wedges either.

I've tried other wedges but keep gravitating back to Vokey's.
Been pretty much a lifetime Vokey fanboy, but recently switched my sand wedge to the TW grind 56 from Taylormade and love it. It has a preworn leading edge so it squares up really nicely when hitting low runners from tight lies, but plenty of heel relief so it gets through the rough pretty nicely as well. Probably going to go to a TM MG4 for my gap wedge as well. However, looking at the new Vokey K* grind for my lob wedge.

My club has super tight/firm fairways and juicy rough around the green, so need a fair amount of versatility.

I had Callaway Jaws, which I actually really liked. Then most recently I had Mizuno's, which I really disliked. Now back to Vokey SM9's - 50F, 54D, 58M.

Got to play Caprock Ranch earlier this month. Really cool course and fun to play. I think the par 3's are as good as you'll find anywhere. How Gil Hanse used the snake river is well done. And the fishing on the snake is really good.

I think it's a top 40 or 30 course in the US. Not as good as Sand Hills, but definitely the second best in the state.

Also, I'm convinced the drive from Scottsbluff to Valentine is one of the best drives in the country.

Hopefully you didn’t let @lee_carvallo_12 read your putts today. I got a notification that there were a few three putts…
