I agree. What Ben did at Drake is great and I think he’s an awesome coach. That roster he had though won’t be able to compete against the grind of the Big 10

I get a bit leery of guys who get a new job, bring their entire roster from their last spot and have success year 1.

I’m not disputing BM can coach. But this is a completely different animal. I do 100% believe this is a very solid hire for Cockeye. But I don’t think it’s the splash that some believe it to be nationally and I think recruiting is going to be tougher than some believe it to be for BM.

He’s not trying to out coach a bunch of MVC coaches anymore. There are ZERO breaks in this league. You’re either going up against an incredible coach or a roster that is constructed with 6-10m every night and sometimes both.

Can Cockeye afford them?
Pretty solid info that Dix isn't going far. Cockeye would just have to be comparable to Nebraska, IA St and Pickle Smoochers. They came up with money for a girl. Would think they could come up with enough to keep their best player.

Does anyone have any insight into why NU struggles to recruit currently? Is it a Fred and staff deal? Is it that compounded by NIL? The roster he put together after coming off co-B1G coach of the year was a major disappointment and hs recruiting never seems to pan out.

Fred staying strong on his offer a year ago & allowing UCLA to overpay worked well for all.

Let's see if we go after Kyle again. I wouldn't mind it at all, definitely can contribute better as a junk man for us (see Josiah Allick in 2024). His price tag has to be cut in half, which IIRC is where we were last off-season.

I have a potential hawt take / possibly captain obvious take. I think college basketball is now currently allll about money. I don’t think fit has much to do with it anymore. Sure if there’s a power conference tournament team vs a 💩 power conference team…might matter a little bit…but ultimately these mid major kids…the games the game…high bidder wins.

The fun times of March madness are probably over. How do mid majors win if their best players year in year out leave? And how could you blame those players? Welcome to the new system….

It’s the correct take unfortunately. No parameters were set when NIL was allowed and it’s created a monster.

I think one way to reel it back in is when Uncle Sam inevitably gets involved, because there’s too much money going around that the government won’t want their hands on.

You want to transfer? Thats fine. Here’s a massive penalty tax on that money you just got from the collective. I imagine it like like drawing from your 401k early. If they found a way to implement that, I think that’d really deter the transfer game while technically still allowing it to happen.

Is that even possible? Probably not. Is it even legal? Probably not. But I know the NCAA won’t do anything.

A CBA that could actually control NIL somewhat.
