They are totally different coaches. I’ve heard countless players say Belichick is the smartest and most organized coach they have ever played for. Mack has always been more of a Bobby Bowden type.
I used to think CFB and NFL were completely different sports, but now it seems like they're getting closer all the time. If UNC hires a GM to handle all the NIL and portal stuff and lets Bill focus on the X's and O's, it could work.
The main difference now is that there is no definition to the schedule of college football
NFL you have defined times for each off-season event. You know when free agency takes place, you know when draft prep happens, you know when the draft occurs you know when OTA start. In college football right now there are programs having to juggle signing day with conference championship prep, looking ahead to a playoff run, and the portal window is during those team’s playoff runs. At the end of your playoff run you’re going to have another signing day, followed by winter workouts, followed by spring ball with another transfer portal window before you break for summer.
Then on top of that during that whole time, apparently kids will back out of their NIL deals just like the UNLV kid so you are also managing recruiting your own roster at all times. Not to mention limitations on prep and practice times. Bill wouldn’t like that his guys have things like class. Although - UNC is known for their athletes having work done for them. Might work haha
This is likely nothing more than a consultation interview to pick his brain on who he thinks would be good replacements. The same thing that we did when we brought Urban in for an interview before we ended up on Rhule
