Chinander did the same thing last year against Illinois. You're going ip against a QB that has struggled as a thrower in the past and so you predominantly play a soft zone, giving him easy throws and and ability to gain confidence, rather that press coverage and forcing him to make tougher throws.
 
The defense was god awful yesterday especially when you consider the opponent. I can't imagine NU facing up against a team with even decent offensive talent. They would have given up 60 with the scheme, tackling, no pass rush and horrible front 7 play.

Were it not for the historically stupid onside kick, I think we'd be talking much more about the defense and their catastrophic failure.
