Nebrasketball Talk…

Do you mean next 4 games? They also play Rutgers in between Illinois and Purdue. I think they go 3-1 in those 4. I think they finish the season at 29-3 or 30-2. Probably drop one at Cockeye and likely split vs USC and UCLA.
Yeah sorry forgot about Rutgers

A win vs. Michigan could change the team's confidence and success "ceiling" of the entire season. Beat Michigan and we could go 4-0.

We lose vs. Michigan, it might be 2-2 or 3-1...but more likely 3-1. I'd like that this team would think their backs are against the wall with a loss at Michigan. They won't like that feeling if they lose and will channel it to prove people wrong vs. Illinois and Purdue, etc.
It might even relax them some, since the streak will be over. They may play with less pressure.

I think Frager makes the trip to Bichigan. Whether he plays or not is TBD.

Bichigan will be a battle, I hope the refs stay out of the way and Fred/Nate let the team know they need to match or beat that physicality from the jump. Bichigan guards and bigs will flash to the ball to create havoc, beat that havoc with fast paint touches and the elite passing we have come to expect from this team and we should be able to get Bich on their heels. We have to play 100% intense defense for 40 minutes (like we say 2nd half @Minn). Communication MUST be top notch, no missed screen call outs, no forgetting about a guy in the corner, no easy paint touches...etc. They have 5 dudes that can hit 3s at any time...we have the same, NEED MAST TO BE ON!!

Sammy my boy needs to be consistent, Pryce needs to play like he has been but can he do it for 40 minutes? BK needs to have A GAME!! JMar, if he can hit an early 3 and find his touch (lights out), Cale needs to know he's more than capable of playing with these dudes!!

As for the games following Tuesday...I'm in the "We beat Bichigan" bus

Illinois, win (contain Wagler to 20-25 points)
Rutgers, win (they are trash)
Purdoo-doo, win (they're rattled and I hate Braden Smith) someone please kick his right leg when he does that BS fade away and take the foul)

So I guess I'm saying we're 4-0 in the next 4

I don't think we lose at home the rest of the year. USC and UCLA I think is a toss up 1-1. Cockeye away...could lose

All that said we finish the season 29-2...

GBR

I Hope Please GIF

I mean...I wouldn't play him if I was Hoiberg.

Fans are making this out to be a Game of the Century...but in CBB a Jan conf game is only so important. Not worth risking anyone's health or recovery.

Try to win tomorrow w the team you had at Illinois. It can be done. But more importantly you don't jeopardize anyone's recovery. Most important that we have a healthy team around March 10

I think it would be good to have him there...not play...but be there with his team/brothers for morale

I agree with your overall idea (sit him unless he's for sure ready)...but this is literally the first time in Nebrasketball history we'll be squaring up with a top 5 team as a top 5 team. Hard not to call this the biggest BBall game ever for the program.

Now it won't be ultimately as far as the season is successful, but this is definitely "if we win this one, holy crap...now we're starting to make a case for the best team in America" something nobody has ever even considered for a team from Lincoln.

To me, if we go 3-1 or better in the next 4, I'm thinking about possible confetti on April 6...which frankly I've been afraid to do up to this point

I agree with all that.

I'm just saying if you're FH, it's not worth rushing a guy who's 85% into it. It's a tight road trip. Barely been a week since he originally injured it. And you have a gauntlet coming up that you need him for.

The home Illinois game is the real crucial game IMHO. You can't lose at Michigan and lose at home to Illinois. That would really drag some momentum.

The Illinois team is gonna be out for blood in their game in Lincoln. Much rather have a 95% Frager there.

We're on the same page 🤜🤛

My question is… How shitty would we have to play to get beat by 10 plus pts right now?

It's not about us playing shitty, and more so our opponents hitting from beyond the arc. Just look at Minnesota. So much effort in the 1H defensively & they nailed their 3's in the 1H. They couldn't keep up with us in the 2H with a limited bench, lost their legs from defending us and went 0-11 from 3 (and IIRC, 9 of them were wide open)....

Michigan has 6 guys shooting 35% or better from 3, with 3 of them shooting 40% or better. Mara is the best big we've faced to date and I cringe thinking we're going to double him and allow their shooters to shoot. I'll be curious of Loesner's game plan for this game. In comparison, we have 4 guys average 35% or better. Michigan rotates 9 then add in a 7 man rotation for us, which will likely turn in to a 6 man if Garcia struggles in the 1H, and this game has blowout written all over it.

I think you are overvaluing Frager's athleticism. His length makes him look more athletic than he really is. He's been challenged and rejected at the rim a few times because he doesn't elevate great. Don't get me wrong, I think he's athletic, but I've seen comparisons to Braun from KU a few years ago, and that kid was significantly more athletic.
He's the white Larry Bird. Athletic as hell.

I can tell you this - we get blown out, hell we even lose a game, and I'll be leading the charge calling for Fred's head...

I know absolutely nothing, but my bet is they are trying to get him back for Purdue, so he's hopefully 100%.

If Michigan, or any talented team gets hot from three, Nebraska will get into trouble, especially on the road. That goes without saying. But one of the reasons why Michigan has been "human" the last month is because they're not shooting the three well:

29% vs. Penn State - 2 point win
32% vs. Wisconsin - 3 point loss
21% vs. Washington - 10 point win
21% vs Ohio State - 12 point win

So you’re picking Michigan to cover.

Great teams get run out opposing gyms all the time. Its not unusual.

Fwiw though, I do think both Nebraska and Michigan's metrics are a bit "out of whack." The Wolverines have been riding the coattails of their November and December ass kickings for a few months now.

On the contrary, Nebraska has been downgraded a bit because they struggled vs the likes of USC-Upstate, Maryland - Eastern Shore, Winthrop, and North Dakota.

Spread should probably be closer.

Well yeah, not unusual at all. But it would be completely out of character for this team. With how hard they play on defense, it would bean extreme outlier if we get blown out. I see Michigan covering as a very low probability. Obviously it’s possible, but I think we’d have to have pretty poor shooting night and get frustrated defensively down the stretch.

Could really easily see a back door cover by Nebraska.

I'm well aware, which makes their current 3% even more impressive.

Everything spells a disaster. Crazy to think 6 werks ago not having Frager would be this big of an impact.

What concerns me (since I had chronic ankle issues myself) is that Frager apparently tweaked his ankle a few days prior to the OU game.

If that becomes chronic it could affect the entire outlook of the season, and potentially even look at what is necessary in the off-season for Braden personally. Ankles can get arthritic, so for his well-being would he be a candidate for off-season surgery? I say this without knowing ANYTHING about ankle sprains and chronic ankle issues except my own. My issues were taken care of with surgery BTW.
