I’ve literally never seen any S&C coach here get praised ever (other than some old timers who have a hard on for Boyd for some reason).
I don’t really think it’s the real problem.
I imagine someone tried to poach him. Usually the only reason you get a raise like that.

Yeah it feels mostly like a general catch all and like it was with War Daddy Duvall, if the team is too fat, not fat enough, too fast, too slow, not well endowed enough, bad at algebra or whatever it's probably because that's how the HC tells the S&C guy he wants them. .
Also I think it's just hard to tell when things aren't going great because everything is bad, for example Uncle Donny was a fucking idiot and taught his line old antiquated technique and his nephew held onto the ball too long and oh by the way Campbell also made the line too fat and weak. Is the S&C the problem there? Idk

You don’t have to be paying the staff to have an opinion. And if you don’t think paying top 20 money and getting top 80 results is problem there no point having this discussion with you.
Based on what Football Scoop reported TWO YEARS ago we are way underpaying our staff if we want to compete effectively in the B1G. We are paying about 75% of what Cockeye is paying.

If I have real complaints about what we are doing and paying for staff it is what we did at DL coach especially given that it was apparent NU had decided to move on from Braeden early, and there were so many long term high end candidates available that Nebraska failed to go after.
I have stated before and I will repeat; you can't afford to underpay for a coach at the DL. You pay for high end talent and you get high end players.
Nebraska needed to be prepared to pay nearly what it pays a DC for a good high end DL coach.

My problem with Barthel is that he isn't really very good as a developer, and as a recruiter he never really recruits outside of the Northeast and New England. Not exactly prime areas in my mind.

Yeah he isn’t good as a developer. Just turned a low 3 star into a first team All American.
Never recruits outside the northeast, which includes every religious/prep school in America
Also primary recruiter for our star QB recruit who…check notes…currently lives in Illinois
