I'm sure he is, but what we need Pat Stewart to do is find out where you can get "bargains" and where you need to spend. QB is obviously easy to figure out, on the line on both sides of course, but for example our All-American RB Nebraska was his best offer by far out of high school. WRs and RBs are a dime a dozen. We have plenty of TEs in Nebraska. Quit paying guys like Dane Key 800k.

Go pay for a defense and an OL, that shit travels.

Are you concerned at all that being good at identifying talent/value at the high school/early college level requires different skills than doing the same thing at the NFL level? Pat Stewart may no doubt be talented, and he’s been doing it at the NFL for a long time, but I could easily see this being another bust hire by Rhule. I’m not banking on that dude being able to say, “oh ya you need to pay this 20 year old from FCS $500K” and have it work out.

I guess the bigger question is did we hire him to manage or did we hire him to identify talent?

The Pat hire has my full attention. At first I was like this is bullshit. Guy has been carried at every job by others. Hope I'm wrong and he does have the skill set needed.

Portal players is a completely different animal than trying to figure out what a high school recruit will develop into for sure.

I really don’t know what we want to do with Stewart, it’s a completely different world than NFL for sure. But he has a necessary job for sure, just zero idea if he’s what we need?

There is no way they haven’t been talking to agents already. There have been multiple rumors of Nebraska tampering with Cockeye/Minnesota kids I believe.

You’re right and I’d be shocked if there are ANY schools who aren’t doing something similar.

The players put it out through back channels, schools contact agents, conversations are had and guys sign pretty quick.

I'd say he was better than meh. I'm not saying he lit the world on fire but there was never a moment this year where I questioned his ability. I thought he was pretty steady all season.

January 16. For teams in the playoffs, they get 5 days after their last game if that's longer.

That's the only official portal window now except after a team loses a head coach.
