LaTeeftards

I've seen tons of people saying he just won't have the build to be a B1G/SEC QB. Ever. "He has to run to be effective and he's just gonna get injured all the time." I've seen that posted probably 100 times.

Less on this boards. But I've seen tons of NU fans saying due to his slim size the best he can hope for is being like a Pac-12 QB where it's less physical.

They might end up being right. My point is that it's way too early to know that.

He’s got obvious skills, wasn’t ready to be the starter and has a slight built.

I don’t know what another off season in the weight room, training table and with the coaches will do for him, so your ‘too early to know that’ point is 100% accurate.

As far as NU fans who think Lateef is CJ Stroud right now.....I think OP is making that up. I've seen it 50-1 ratio people giving up on him and almost blaming him for PSU/Cockeye loss.

If seen two on this board that immediately jumped all in on Lateef. Some of that was his game against UCLA, some was a disdain for Raiola, none of it was rational thought.

I have not heard one single person say he'll never be a good QB.

I've heard several people say he's not ready
Might have to screen this take through @Juro but I'll be the only person in the camp that thinks he should never be the starter here. Not because I don't think at some point he'll be a good QB, but because I cannot envision a scenario where you don't take a portal QB for >$1M to be the 2026 starter, preferably with 2 years remaining. The second year being the bridge year to get to Trae Taylor as a RSFr, or if Lateef stays, TJ as a RSJr or Sr. I don't see TJ staying if you get a quality 2-yr QB.

I didn't see anything from TJ that wowed me during his 3.5 games as the QB. Maybe he does that in the Utah game...?

Two seems low...

Two that I’d say went off the ledge. Many were supportive/positive about Lateef.

Of course I don’t mess with the game threads and am on and off the board a lot.
Fair. I just felt like I was arguing with people on here a lot about TJ's lack of ability displayed against PSU and Cockeye. People act like the hamstring injury sustained against Cockeye affected his play against PSU. He was BAD against PSU, and wasn't good against Cockeye pre-hamstring injury.

Yeah it was weird. They would call anyone who said, "Let's wait and see how the next two games plays out" haters etc.

One dude on InsideNebraska even said he'd stop being a Husker fan Raiola ever started over Lateef again.

Fortunately for him I guess that Raiola is leaving

How many good senior QBs this year have ever wowed in their first year, regardless if they were a true or RS freshman?

Being a good QB who flourishes in their system means having to take a few hits before learning the ins-and-outs of being a CFB D1 QB.

I understand the excitement after UCLA. It makes sense. He played very well against a mediocre defense. I definitely didn’t understand the instant flip to him being our next Tommie Frazier. The kid was borderline great in LA, looked very much like a true freshman against Pedo State and Cockeye, which he is. Expecting him to duplicate his UCLA results against much better defenses (who now had extended film on him) is a lot to ask a kid who was thinking about prom last year.

I still think he’s going to be pretty good. Time will tell if he’s a ‘Get you fired’ guy, a ‘Get you close’ guy, or a ‘Get you there’ guy.

The fairest way for me to judge his play against Pedo and Cockeye is that he very much looked like a true Freshman, with some definite D1 skills. Accuracy was way off in both games, well before the hammy.

I definitely believe there is something there worth working on, but it’s very easy for me to see he’s just not ready yet. That’s not his fault. The list of true Freshman who were really ready to come in an perform well at the QB position is pretty damned short.

I guess I just have a fundamental disagreement with this. Typically, a young QB would have some trait that stands out that you can really see a high upside in. I didn't see any in TJ.

Outside of that I agree with the second statement.

Obviously not ready, but my underlying premise is that he will never be ready at NU due to timing. I think he could be a serviceable QB somewhere else, I just don't see it working out that way here.
