The most interesting thing I discovered reading that article is that the Hastings Tribune is NOT owned by the Borg (also known as the World Herald). There aren't many papers left in Nebraska that aren't owned by this mind melded eunuch organization, congrats to the Tribune of Hastings!
Yes. Hastings is still independent and doing quality journalism and apparently thriving because of it. I know in the past year they hired their own reporter to cover Husker athletics, and he does good work.

Local newspapers can still thrive when they are owned and run by local people who care about putting out a great product. When they are owned by national chains whose main objective is the bottom line for shareholders, that’s when you see cuts in staff and budgets to the point it’s no longer worth reading.
