It really irks me how little we’ve utilized IWCC over the years and that doesn’t just go for football

Not NU’s fault. The IWCC (football) staff passionately hates Nebraska and actively does everything they can to discourage their players from considering us. Someone who used to work for their football program made a lengthy post about it on RSS.

I’ve come on here before with this info, so this is nothing new, but it’s been a while so I’ll spin the thread again:

I worked for Cockeye Western football for 2 seasons. Those guys HATE Nebraska. With a passion.

Nebraska has multiple times reached out to Cockeye Western and multiple times had the door slammed on them. Through multiple coaches. Pelini and Riley I know for sure were actively trying to get players from Cockeye Western.

There were recruiting guys and assistants from all over the country in the building constantly. I met some insanely cool people from it, including big coaches like Dan Lanning, Marcus Freeman and Alex Golesh. The reaction to Nebraska coaches vs literally any other coach was astounding. Nebraska would be treated coldly, whereas there was always a warm reception for anyone else. Specifically Cockeye, Cockeye State and Minnesota. Their head coach and longtime assistants are all Minnesota born and massive gopher fanboys. There were multiple times where conversations would basically include “do you really want to go there? Nebraska isn’t exactly the right fit?” They would steer their players away from Nebraska the best they could.

Nebraska had a player committed and signed named Lorenzo Stewart, who wasn’t going to qualify at NU and was placed at Cockeye Western to get his grades in order and as a sign of good will between NU and IWCC. Cockeye Western treated him poorly, basically giving him 0 coaching or support. He wasn’t without his own issues, but he was basically the black sheep of the program from the day he showed up

Do not trust anything Cockeye Western coaches or staffers say. Theres a reason they’re all still coaching JuCo football after 20 years and none of them have moved up in the world

Idk much about the situation, aside from the little that has been said here but based on that, it sounds like it's not so much the current staff's doing as previous ones?

All I know is they've been one of, if not the best Juco colleges for years and we've done nothing with it which seems retarded

I was at the basketball game against SC Upstate last weekend and noticed Dean shortly after I entered PBA. While in line with my daughter to get a water and Gatorade, I hear someone say, "Nice hat!". It's Dean commenting on my plati board hat. He proceeds to say, "I know what it's all about." All I could do is smile and say, "Yeah, the platinum board is awesome!"
