There were rumors at the time that Stevie P’s first choice was a young and upcoming coach Urban Meyer. Story I heard was Urban wanted no part of a school that fired a coach with Solich’s record. Everything went downhill from there. Houston Nutt not getting on the plane was televised live on local tv.

I think Urban was up there, but publicly volunteered that fact at some point. Mike Zimmer was on the list too which would have been interesting.
