Are we that sure Holgorsen sticks around for next year? I'm not.
Answer this:

Does Rhule fire him? Answer is no.

Where is he going to go after this years performance where he will get paid more than he gets paid here? Nowhere.

Is he going to leave all that money on the table? No.

Holgs is not going anywhere

Nebraska excels at finding situations where coaches aren’t fireable but also aren’t worth anything to another program.

Hate to say it but the Rhule era is already over at Nebraska only a matter of time before he's fired.

Whatever changes he makes over the offseason will just be moving deck chairs around on the Titanic. Some coaches and players might leave on their own for greener pastures.

Next years schedule becomes more difficult, maybe 5? wins on the schedule at first glance. Going to get their shit pushed in by some again. Ends up getting fired at some point rinse and repeat unfortunately. It's too bad I was looking forward to landing the 2027 recruiting class probably just a dream now.

Yeah, next years schedule is tough. We are deficient and have holes all over the place. O line and Dline first and foremost. You don't win in the B1G with subpar LOS play.

Beyond that, too many questions going into off season. Raiola's (Dylan and Donny) probably gone. Lateef, question if he can hold up physically. Emmett will be gone, no one behind him, room is very weak. Receivers did not live up to the billing again. Does Hunter even stay?

LB's have been meh. Obviously interior D Line is beyond weak. Rush ends have not panned out, we basically have no pass rush. Secondary has been good overall, but we will lose some and still will have holes.

Special teams did a 180 with Ek, but heck does Ek stay? Feels like Rhule is rubbed wrong by Ek's energy. Might just be jealousy on Rhules part. Aussie punter looked good early, but did not finish well IMO. Kicker - we are better but still iffy.

We have to spend BIG in the portal and hit on most of them. The youth we have has to improve and mature (and actually be plus players).

So many question marks, and who knows how many players bolt to the portal also.

If Rhule has a losing season next year it’s going to be hard to justify keeping him.

The only thing that I’ll accept right now is that this team is young and there’s some talent here that I do like. But with that being said, the “We’re young” talking point goes away next season. Go win games.
Agreed. I don’t care that the schedule is harder next year - it’ll be year 4.

The problem becomes when one coach throws everything he has behind one year and builds his roster this way you kind of have to do it every year.

The best path forward IMO is to convince both Dylan and TJ to stay first and foremost.

QB - goes away if Dylan and TJ stay
RB - no way to spin this position group sucks
WR - need a guy
TE - eh… I’d be fine if we held firm
OL - we’ll probably always cherry pick here. Honestly, they did not play bad this week though and at times looked dominant.

DL- need a guy or two
LB - need a guy or two
DB - you lose a lot….. 😬😬

You probably need 11 guys in the portal. Which is fairly common for us. The unfortunate news is that in some of these instances these guys are tough to get. I’m not worried about WR, RB, or even QB for that matter. Those guys are much easier and honestly we’ve done okay with OL transfers. I’m worried about not being able to find the DL/LB we need and getting them up to speed in time.

My worst fear on defense came true this year. Which is that no matter what we did we simply couldn’t stop teams when they wanted to run on us and it often led to 3-4 yards a pop. Teams in this league (outside of USC) aren’t going to get bored running the football.
Maybe Dom gets what he wants after the way we looked out last 2 games and both Dylan and Dayton get more $$$ - if we have to keep Donnie as well, WOOF

The only leeway that I’ll give any coach at this time is that the amount that college football has changed in the past 3 years is insane and mistakes are going to be made with anyone regardless of experience.

To that point though, if we are using hindsight they were right.

While I don’t think Rhule is officially on the “hot seat,” his clock has started. It’s going to be really hard to see a path forward here if we see this same thing next season.
This is where I’m at. You need to see tangible progress next year. To me that is minimum 9-3. Anything else should get him fired.

I don't think he will be able to make all the changes that are needed even if he wants too. They need what 6+ transfers on each side of the ball? Not going to get any help from 2026 high school recruiting class either. Hire 4-5 new coaches or maybe more depending on who sticks around? I don't know if I can see it happening. Then have to play that schedule. I'm usually a glass half full guy but it looks pretty bleak right now.

You are correct. Almost impossible to make all the changes and improvements needed. That hole is too deep in too many ways.

If they win more than 5 games next season I will be surprised.

I hope we see some changes and Rhule decides to focus more on coaching than all the other side crap he has going, like podcasts etc. Besides our lack of talent and scheme, it baffles me why we have the amount of support staff that we do. We have a significant number of wasted checks in our football program. What do all these people do? Rhule has gotten everything that he has wanted as far as facilities, resources, and staff, and we look like shit more times than not.

We had very few negative plays today. EJ ran for 200(?) and I don’t believe TJ got sacked a single time and often had all of the time needed.

That Cockeye defense is also one of the better units in the conference.

What was the difference today? Because honestly they looked like maulers at times.

I’m not above any one of these coaches being removed. But honestly I’m beginning to believe that the best kept secret is that the OL hasn’t been as shitty as we have been led to believe.
It’s not a popular narrative at all…and our O-Line has dramatically improved over the season. Especially, since Minnesota…which was a game everyone struggled.

I take your point and it does makes sense. I do believe we can see a huge jump in our sophomore class from this year to next. A lot of young guys have had to play meaningful minutes which should, in theory pay off for their development into their Junior year.

Another year of size and technique development for that group will matter.

Yes, you can counter with…our coaches don’t develop players. I get the take.

We do have talent (young as they may be) and the cupboards aren’t bare. We have acquired much more than what we had when Frost left.

Idk. I really don’t. We’ve made bowls twice in a row, which is more than Frost did.

That said, we look like shit. We look soft, and poorly coached. We should be looking to emulate Cockeye. They play smart, sound football. They don’t beat themselves. Fuck, Minnesota does that. Northwestern does that. We can’t seem to.

Rhule talks a big game, but leaves a ton to be desired. The same guys who fuck up game after game are trotted out. Same for the coaches. He kept Satterfield and Foley long past when he should have.

If the NIL situation is actually better, than I have some confidence things get better. We have some young talent. We have to get better along the lines. Without that 7-5 is about our ceiling.

Our offense makes no sense. If Rhule is gonna insist on running Satt’s system with Holgo calling plays, that’s idiotic. If Rhule wants to be a power run team, that’s great. Hire someone who can run that.

Defense needs to improve massively. Tackling and the fundamentals are horrible. That’s coaching, pure and simple.

Ekeler did a lot of good. The vaunted Archie Wilson had his moments, but a lot of times was mediocre or worse. Return game started the year well, then was complete dogshit down the stretch.

Depending on where it is, I might go to the bowl game. Always good to see some of you sick fucks in person.

I’m about to order a large amount of pizza and junk food. Might play some NCAA Football 2004 and run the option all over Cockeye.

I love you all.

I'd argue that the biggest improvement came once Corcoran took over the RT spot. So that begs the question why Teddy and Gunner were ahead of him in the first place. Both of them were just plain awful no way around it.
