Butler. Donnie.

I do think us as a fan base needs to come down harder on the coaches in the offseason. No more kool-aid. When the coaches and media try to push that kool-aid agenda we need to be louder and push back our disapproval or prove it first mentality.
Nobody should feel safe. I want everyone uncomfortable and feel the urgency.

After next season a good portion of the fanbase will be out on Rhule.

Next season is going to suck.
We’ll see if he makes the changes that have to be done in the offseason. If he doesn’t kick Donnie to the curb then there’s not much to look forward to.

We’ve seen what a good coach like ekeler can do for a team, I don’t think that’s any different for the OL. Unfortunately we’re probably stuck with butler

I’m assuming there are a lot of hangovers floating around this board this morning.
Adam Sandler Yes GIF

how many bad hires does it take for Rhule to be the problem?
If you can’t see that this program is miles ahead of where it was I don’t know what to tell you. Sure it’s been a little slower getting there but Rhule told us he builds slow. Would you rather have the Colorado situation? I’m just as frustrated as the next guy but holy shit boys, take a step back and see the whole picture. If you want money to dry up fast just keep getting rid of coaches.

In some areas, I believe we have improved. Skill positions, special teams and the defensive backfield are all pretty strong. Both lines, however are piss fucking poor.

Are we really a better team than we were last year? With a much easier schedule than last we’ve only managed one more win (yeah I think we’ll lose to Cockeye again Friday). I agree, we’re in a better spot than we were with Frost, but is 7-5 with the standard Cockeye schedule acceptable? Especially when Rhule in year 3 was supposed to be the breakout season?

I could make my defense work with an Elite interior DL

If you need that to field a defense, then you aren’t a good coordinator

True, but you have to some decent talent too. (Specifically talking about our DL) You can’t just throw anybody in there cause you’re good coordinator and you’ll just coach’em up.

Butler has only been the DC for 1 season. We (Rhule) have known that Nash and Ty would be gone after last season for 3+ years. Lack of talent on DL isn’t Butler’s fault. Rhule should’ve had a plan to replace those guys. (and if he did have a plan it’s a shitty plan) Either way, Butler is likely back (almost certainly) next season. Get him some fucking dudes upfront and let’s see what this defense looks like.

Buy him some top players from the portal, if we’re capable that of course, and if he still blows at stopping the run and getting after the QB I think we’ve seen enough. Unfortunately, that might mean another middling season or worse and Rhule will squarely be on the hot seat.

You’d hope by year 4 or 5 your fucking head coach could find or develop a couple decent coordinators. If JoBu blows it next year we’ll probably be on our 3rd DC through 4 seasons. Ball is your court Rhule, you get paid a shit load of money to figure it out.

This is not a butler problem, this is a Rhule that had no plan to replace Ty and Nash issue and hiring a DL coach who had no experience in running a room at this level or recruiting experience. If he hired Penn St OL/DL coaches we would improve significantly.

Shorts is good, Barfthel apparently needs to be retained if we want to keep our '27 QB. All the others can fuck right off.
I do the same, but its always funny how we worry about keeping our Quarterback happy that wont even see a snap here for 2+ seasons yet… Nebraska football.. always 3 years away!

On the bright side of things at least we gave an extension and are committing more money to the problem. I'm sure our ROI will improve like it has over the last 30 years. It’s not bad coaching, its obviously talent and resources.

We will see if Rhule pivots at all but I think he brought a 2015 mentality to building a roster and program through recruiting and young players, hence our 75 plus freshman and sophomores. In 2025 and beyond it’s about portal acquisitions IMO. Which is why recruiting rankings mean nothing to me anymore.

Totally agree on both lines being bad. I do wish people would get off of the “year three” thing because every situation is different. And that was also done pre NIL.
