The kid's having an amazing year, but the guy who wins this usually starts getting his type of extensive hype in August.

I wouldn’t put landing on 2nd team AA or All B1G out of the realm of possibility, but at this point we’d have to win out (unlikely) with EJ as the feature (very likely).

Regardless, happy as hell he came back and great year young man.

They did the same thing with AA batteries for Ameer. Its too late, they should of started hyping in August

Rhule mentioned it and then they tried to do a whole campaign in two days.

If we’re honest, as much as Rhule and the rest of the staff likes EJ, I don’t think their collective expectation with all factors taken into account was a year like this.

Good for them for giving him his run, but at this point it is what it is.

Looking at his numbers, they aren't really comparable to RBs that have been in the Heisman discussion in the past decade.

It's smart to make the publicity push, though. It's a solid recruiting tool

It is exactly what it is. Helps Emmett as he heads into the draft to be looked at in a better light. Helps NU as it heads into portal season looking for his replacement. It's a win/win and certainly at very little input cost, is worth doing even if it's a little too little and a little too late.

I agree with your assessment of the Heisman campaign. I'm struggling to see why you think winning out is unlikely? 3-6 Penn St. and most likely a 7-4 Cockeye are left....?

Penn State still has elite talent and the game is on the road. I’ve been to Happy Valley for a game and it’s not going to be anything like the Rose Bowl was for TJ and company. I still think we’ve got a shot though, so I’m not calling it one way or another.

Cockeye is still goddamned Cockeye and we find a way to lose to those ass clowns pretty frequently. On the plus side, we’re at worst even with them from a Special Teams perspective and even with a true Frosh at QB, we’re better offensively. On the down side, their defense is still sick and will give us fits. Our biggest weakness right now is our run defense (some of that is schematic to stop the pass for those paying attention at home), so I see a typically tough Cockeye game that again…..we haven’t fared well in since Bo left.

Can we win out? Absolutely. We will? In my opinion, that’s unlikely.

Don’t disagree, but he has set himself apart in the RB group this year. You watch the film and you see a kid who’s tough as hell, runs well, catches well out of the backfield and this year has taken YAC to another level, but I don’t see anything that screams ‘Heisman’. He has improved each year he’s been here, so if he was convinced to stay for ’26 he’d likely be in the conversation.

To be clear, I’m not criticizing the effort, just stating that it’s a hail mary at this point. Also agree that it’s great publicity for the program and Emmitt himself. The kid deserves all the accolades he gets.

It's not about actually winning the Heisman. It's about showing your guys and your recruits that when someone on the team does well then Nebraska is gonna sing their praises.

The goal is to win hearts and minds.
Good point, push EJ's success in the program, push the brand. Doesn't cost anything to put out a few posts on social media.
