That said, I do think something is coming/being worked on as many have speculated, but nothing has been signed yet.

I have nothing against Josh at all. He's always been good to us and this site over the years.

On a story of this magnitude, when you are talking about a paper worth several million dollars over a long period of time, there is so much that goes into it. In our shoes, unless you get the info from Rhule, Dannen/AD source, or Rhule's agent, it is hard for anyone in our shoes to report something of this level. There's a reason again why no national guy went with anything last night, because nothing has been signed at this point, as Will said.

I think he was going to get paid $12m in the last year of his current contract so somewhere around that much I’m guessing. I’d expect coach salaries will continue to rise over the next few years so it won’t seem as bad in the 2030s.

This is an important point in response to those who say he hasn't earned an extension. This will turn out, salary-wise, to be a market adjustment given the increase in salaries expected this cycle (although the term will be extended).

If we didn't give a market adjustment in response to Rhule being a candidate at PSU - even a secondary candidate - there would be schools talking to him a month from now given the openings that appear to be coming. It's essentially a message that we won't fight to keep him.

This would have players exiting to the portal and recruits looking elsewhere.

This is a good point - his current deal runs through 2030, and the average extension is signed when a coach has ~4 years left on his contract. So he would be due for an extension about a year from now, after the biggest coaching turnover season of our lifetime, when average salaries will be up significantly.

By re-signing now, Nebraska will likely be paying less than if we waited & did an extension at the standard market timing.

Change a couple words to "I can also tell you as well that Rhule has not been at Nebraska... unless you get the info from Dannen/AD source that Rhule was at Memorial Stadium, it is hard for anyone in our shoes to report something" and it's basically a carbon copy of how he talked during the last coaching search.

I mean we are back to back bowling so thats the first semblance of results we've had since Bo. Its a step in the right direction. Rhule has the right personality to thrive in this era of football IMO. Get him his NIL funds to compete with the big boys and see what happens.

That’s my opinion, generally. Get him the money to compete with top NIL schools. At that point you’ve given him everything he needs to succeed and if he can’t… You know you’ve tried pretty much everything and now you know what you have to do.
