2026 FB Coaching Carousel

If you straw polled Cockeye fans youd be shocked at how many would say fitzgerald

Its his job if it's a hire made by kirk and not a current member of the staff. His kid is a walkon qb and he's been around the program a ton over the last two years

Interesting.

I know the results were up and down at Northwestern, but I still think Fitz is a good coach.

I’d hate to see him in Cockeye City.

I think it would be a really bad hire. At least with monken you can get a guy who's actually been around the game over the past two years albeit he's insulated from change a bit at Army. You need to be able to build out a front office now.

Of all the guys I could see them ending up with I would only be scared if they ended up catching Kalen DeBoer on the way down. Someone will and they'll be getting the biggest bargain since the Louisiana purchase. It will probably be a school closer to his roots - Cockeye, indiana, minnesota, wisconsin, etc. Only other guy that they could hire that I could see them upgrading on would be willie fritz.

How would we feel about this scenario? Not totally unreasonable

Florida > James Franklin
Penn State > Rhule
Nebraska > Kalen DeBoer

If they hired Fitz, surround him with football player personnel folks. He’s a good coach.

I honestly don’t know what Rhule’s ceiling is. I don’t think any of us do. Is he the ‘Fox it’ guy who won’t win championships, or is that strictly because he’s been upwardly mobile at each move?

DeBoer would win in Lincoln and his personality would be a better fit here than Tuscaloosa.

UCLA's problem is the situation is so bad anyone who would take the job they probably shouldn't offer it to
They should really hire a Bronco Mendenhall or Ken Niumatalolo just to raise the floor to 6-6 until they can get their money right

Why the Big Ten threw them a life raft just to keep an even number I have no idea. Would have preferred anyone in the top half of the ACC or Kentucky/Mizzou

Because travel is already miserable for USC.

Honestly, they should've taken Cal and Stanford too to have some sort of geographic logic to the conference. I know they aren't good football schools, but they are good academically and provide the losses that every game of football requires so that someone else can win.

On the Audible, they were discussing a scenario where Satterfield gets fired and #2ndChoice goes back to Cincy.

isnt Florida a lateral move? Is Rhule the splash hire Pedo State fans will be ok with? I wanted Deboer when he was at Fresno if we would of shit canned Frosty when we should have.

Would make sense. Hes a good coach at that level. Hes a Scott Frost level coach in the B1G. Even when he had Ohio St talent he was shit.

I think so and Franklin is a PA guy. That said, recruiting in PA isn’t what it once was and the state of Florida is still sick with talent.

On Rhule, depends on what happens the next two years. Rhule pulls a Rhule and we go 11-1 or 10-2 and make the playoff this year, he might raise some eyebrows up there if Franklin bolts. He does what I think is the impossible and beats Penn State this year and that makes them that much more interested. Of course all of that is predicated on Franklin actually wanting to leave.

I liked Deboer as well. Other guy I’ve always thought would fit in Lincoln is Whittingham.

Hopefully the Whittingham love has passed. I agree he would have been a good hire....... 10-15 years ago. He'll be 66 this year. No thanks.

Yeah, I’m close to his age, so I don’t see it as an issue, but I understand how others would.

Why is Franklin leaving Penn state for Florida? Dude has been to the playoffs & probably will get a raise if they make it back again this year. He can’t win the big game but they aren’t going to fire him when he’s doing better than joepa & O’Brien

I’d say Rhule leaving for Florida is more likely but slim
