Soul Live got into a fist fight in my Green Room that I had to break up. Put a fucking hole in the wall. I made them sign it below where they wrote "I will not fight in the Green Room" and I put a picture frame around hole. I had to separate the guys from Unwritten Law as they were starting to go at it. I almost got into a fight with the manager of Papa Grows Funk as he was so coked. I would have decked him except he was a lawyer and I knew he would sue me. His band apologized for his out of control behavior. It got real heated between me and the stage crew of The Disco Biscuits. I was getting ready to throw skin with 1 of them on stage when another stage guy came up acting like he wanted a piece of me too. He was a big guy and a dick. I pointed at my doormen who were watching and he backed off.
The Samples didn't get into a fist fight. I've probably told this story before but gonna tell it again cuz it's awesome. The first show I did with the Samples I was very standoffish with them because I'd heard how difficult they were to deal with. I was very professional with them but didn't hang out like I did with most bands due to hearing they were pricks. Well shows over and place has been closed for 30 minutes when 2 girls come out of the green room crying. Like balling their eyes out. I'm thinking these assholes did something to them so run over there. Can't get the girls to stop crying. Finally one of them can speak and she tells me that her friend was diagnosed today with an aggressive form of cancer. So she asked her what can I do for you to put a smile on your face. They lived in Denver and she said she wanted to see the Samples play in Vail tonight. They drove up to the show and after the show the friend went up to the band to see if she could get an autograph. Told the band about her friends cancer diagnosis and driving up for the show. The band grabbed a couple guitars from the stage and took the girls back into the green room. I didn't know any of this was going on. They asked the girl what her favorite Samples songs were and they performed them in the green room for a half hour. After hearing that I had no choice but to go tell the band that they earned my respect.
Considered them friends when I was in the music biz. Honestly they were easy to deal with when I started booking them because they had gotten a good tour manager who had straightened them out.
