On3 Buys Rivals

On 3 is keeping the stuff that is interesting and dumping the HS recruiting piece - which is becoming increasingly less interesting to most fans - into Rivals.

I bet that eventually goes to private equity or a management buyout of some kind.

I'm trying to remember how it went when 247 merged Scout back in the day. Might be a similar process.

He’ll “move” Mongo to rivals to cover recruiting while he and Sip cover the team on on3.

I’ll give Callahan credit in 1 area, he’s built a big brand with some loyal retards following him. I imagine he makes some good money

I think Tim easily transitions into a role with 247.

He gets booted in favor of the muffed punt window licker, and he’ll get a job in a hurry. Actual quality in most of his content and he doesn’t seem to be a giant baby.

I’m old school, but I like to see some grammar and spelling chops in my writers.

Even in the character limited X world, it just flows better with a guy or gal who has skilz in those areas.

Football writing - Steve has to be the most knowledgeable about the game out of anybody who covers the team, his breakdowns are truly insightful and even educational for layman fans like me, and always well written

Recruiting - I don't follow recruiting at all anymore but sounds like Tim is awesome at the job

Site owner/columnist - Zack is a total breath of fresh air by not taking things so seriously and writing in a funny/entertaining way about the team. Great outsider perspective too, without being a contrarian.

I can't imagine anybody who would be excited to go from those three, to Sipple, Mu nson, and Dean.....

Callahan's was a top Rivals site based on traffic volume, and he knows Callahan from the original Rivals days. He got them to come over to On 3. The Nebraska site is now On3's 8th most trafficked site. It just isn't realistic to expect Shannon to, in effect, switch Nebraska sites.

Very few details on this. It appears to be private equity literally, but not a firm. It sounds like a group of investors with Shannon as the lead investor (using profits he made from all his earlier college sports recruiting venture cash-outs)
