Game Loser

The game was officially “lost” when we forced a pass on 3rd and 18 instead of taking 12 yards with Bonner and getting to 4th down

But the game was for all intents and purposes lost with the game and clock management post targeting penalty. We were somehow an absolute mess with all the time in the world to put together what we wanted to do there. You cannot run one fucking play from 3:18 to 2:00 of game time, especially when you are behind the chains and LOSING with one timeout. We looked like we’d never repped a 2 minute drill before. That is the frustrating part about the way the game ended.

I just hope we get a Raiola a real OC and invest money in the offense to help him next year. I have faith White can field a serviceable defense.
Ok, here's the plan. Beat USC. They'll also lose to ND, giving them 6 losses on the year. Lincoln Riley gets the ax. Rhule reaches out a kind and understanding hand. Riley comes to rehab his image with the top returning sophomore QB in the country. Profit.

These two posts are connected.

If Banks could ever block a DB, they spring two or three plays for 50+ yards.

But he sucks and you can't keep calling those plays knowing that dude is unable to block anyone on the perimeter.
Banks is a 5th year senior. He's not changing at this point. STOP CALLING THESE PLAYS!

This is not like a RS freshman or something where he might improve or pick up a new skill. He flat out won't/can't do it. It's established now. You have to stop calling those plays at this point.

The guy's played 4.5 yrs of CFB...he's not gonna discover a new skill at this point. For the love of christ stop calling plays where Banks is asked to perimeter block.

It’s maddening. They think a screen is the perfect play call vs an aggressive defense. Correct. IF you can fucking block the perimeter. Shatterfield admitted that they’ve struggled with perimeter blocking all year. Yet you constantly run a play dependent on that with the game on the line?!?!? Could’ve been a Top 5 upset with a better play caller. I have full confidence that Dylan will use his leverage in the offseason to get a new OC.

It's not just Banks failing at these blocks. And something to think about - Shitterfield is so sniffed out and scouted, that opposing DC's usually know what's coming.

Lastly, and very important, is that these screen plays have hardly worked all year. I doubt the succesful hit rate is over 5%. STOP CALLING a much proven unsuccessful play. There are a ton of other ways to take advantage of what defenses are giving you or stunting to stop. A good OC would be countering where defenses are aligning to stop certain plays. We don't have an OC that does that very often, it is usually just the opposite. Trying to shove a square peg into a round hole over and over and over.

To be fair Dylan missed two wide open TD passes too

Special shoutout to Gifford for not making a single play through 8 games
Dude, did you not see that he missed a tackle and then ran the guy down from behind bc the guy got slowed down by other defenders?? That’s effort and not giving up on the play…..🙄

This seems entirely feasible. I’m on board, let’s do it!
