Duval

I don't know that, but it sure looks like it
I think Whipple is a solid coach, but that hire never made sense to me with the Raiola hire. You didn’t have 2-3 years to get it right. You had to be in win now mentality. I didn’t get changing your offense quite a bit and hiring a novice line coach to boot. Having said that it might have worked out if the defense wasn’t such hot garbage.

Duval fooled a lot of people with strength testing numbers (through the roof) but the red flags appeared when we started looking at 40 times.

A white walk-on from Benkelman who never sees the field is our most athletic player for shits sake.

Duval can get guys to bench and squat. What he absolutely failed at was speed & agility development and flexibility.

A lot of strength guys lose sight of those two things. With our next strength coach, we need an assistant strength coach who oversees the speed and agility portion. A few teams have done this with a “feed the cats” approach and I believe, physiologically, it works.
mmmhhmm that’s some yummy info terd bait , check back in 20 minutes 😇

I liked Whipple. Felt like he brought discipline(no offensive penalties for the first 6 quarters roughly), passing concepts and somebody older. I felt like you mixed that with Frosts wrinkles in the run game and it could go somewhere.

Raiola was the one I didn't get. There was a guy from ND I thought we should've pushed for.

I truly don't get why the bottom fell out of the defense and S&C.

Duval, the bootleg Chuck Zito. I’ve been bagging on his S&C program for years. Only to have the taters of The Republic of Mongo run me off.
He must have skipped Boyd’s classes on explosiveness 101.

#BiggerFatterSlower
Just look at Martinez year one to year two. Dude looked fast and explosive only to be made fat and slow by DuVaL.

Yeah, looking at what the gameplan has been, I don't understand the Whipple move at all. We didn't have to reinvent the world this year. If we could just run fucking IZ constantly over the last 2-3 years our offense is fine.

I would still rather have a sprint-focused S&C program. We should be at the leading edge on all things S&C

Fire everybody and start over. No holdovers in the AD, strength staff, football program at all.

Keep waterboy though.
I would be ok with keeping 5 coaches off this staff.. (not all 5, but these are the 5 that I think are good coaches).
1. Mickey
2. Busch
3. Applewhite
4. Beckton
5. Fisher - his stock has fallen a lot this year IMO.

I think the last two are the least likely to be retained, but I think they are good coaches that I would be ok with keeping.

The new coach if I had to guess probably keep 2 from the top 3

Also Beckton and Fisher aren't "Frost guys." They are UCF guys at their core. Not sure that makes a big difference, but something to note.

I would also keep the nutrition guy(Dave Ellis)… I would also keep Guinta.

So my thinking is, is Duval a bad S&C coach or did he do exactly what Frost wanted him to do with the players?

Or was it a mix?

I think it's way more this than anything. He may be gruff, but I don't think he's an incompetent S&C.
It is documented that after Michigan his 1st year Frost basically changed everything he wanted from his players as far as body types....

I don't know about Duval, prior to this year we physically went toe to toe with some of the top programs in the country and I never felt we were physically out gunned. This years roster has a ton of less than 1 year in the program players contributing and this is the worst it has looked as far as S&C IMO.

I also think it is interesting that his guys typically test well at the combine.

I can see the twitchy/explosion argument(that @ChocaEgg makes), but how much of that is on Duval vs Frost wanting a bigger roster.
