I'd never criticize a kid for committing to Duke (or Stanford, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, etc.) based on academic reputation and alumni support. Granted, you can make a heckuva living as an ex-Husker player in Nebraska if you want to stick around and hang out your shingle, but even a born & raised Nebraskan can see the advantage of Duke undergraduate degree. While the decision is supposed to be about football, it always comes down to setting a kid up for the next level, whether that's the NFL or post-college life.
With that said, I hope the kid ... recovers from all of the crippling injuries I hope he receives since he spurned my team. JUST KIDDING. I'd never actually wish anything like that on any kid. I'm sure he'll do well at Duke on and off the field.
