Well, this settles it. We are unanimous National Champs in 1997.

Nebraska 97 - great defense and offense
Michigan 97 - great defense and an average at best offense

Look what NU did to Tennesee & Peyton Manning's offense in the bowl game. Michigan wouldn't have scored more than 13 points on NU.

It bothered me that this was even a debate at the time, but ESPN/ABC fell in love with Michigan that season and NU was an afterthought.

I remember this vividly about this debate…
My cousins husband is from Wisconsin, big badger fan. We had a big family gathering a few years ago and we were all against him but him being pro big ten he was dead set Michigan would destroy us. Argument went on for 10-15 minutes it seemed like until I finally ended it with “Tom Osborne vs Lloyd Carr”. He looked like I had just cancelled Christmas. From that day on that’s the counterpoint I use if anyone brings that debate up.

ESPN was also dick riding Charles Woodson to win the Heisman as well!

Only fucking idiots & haters argue that Michigan would’ve won. Their best case is Michigan blew the doors off of Colorado at the beginning of the season at home while Nebraska squeaked by Colorado at the end of the year on the road.

Anyone who understands football can see how it's a bs argument. Tennessee had a national title roster that won it all in 98 & we annihilated em. Washington state was a 3 win roster the very next year & Michigan needed the refs to erase a second left to prevent Ryan leaf from a hurling a last second TD to win it.

4 quarters of option football would’ve beat Michigan by two or more scores cuz they didn’t prep for it year round like Colorado.

Michigan literally had their starting quarterback's dad doing the national TV broadcast for their bowl game where they squeaked by a so-so Washington State team (and ran extra time off the clock to end the game when WSU should have had one more play with a chance to win).

Michigan fans whine about Scott Frost giving a 30 second speech after dominating an elite team, but don't mention that they got a 4 hour infomercial.
