I think you hit on at least part of the reason for the high expectations back then with the preseason #1. NU would start the season with a high ranking and a lot of promise and then for whatever reason it wouldn't work out in the end thus the frustration from the fans.

The best way I can relate it to the younger guys is these last few years it was this is the year we are going to make it to a bowl game again, well back then it was National Championships 🙁.

It was pretty rare prior to the Callahan years for us not to be a top 10 team, especially entering a season.

I miss the days when we could complain that we were a much better team than #9 going into the year and people were going to be surprised. Now we get nine votes for #25.

I love them. I also love the all whites. My only issue with the all reds is not sure its a wise choice on a day when it's going be 95 degrees.
