TPB Travel thread

Had a chance to walk around Zurich earlier this afternoon during a layover. Super cool place - would like to spend a bit more time here than the couple of hours I had

35 years ago, I was doing some training in Rotterdam, and we had to wind up in Bremen, Germany the following week. The weekend was yet another 3-day holiday weekend for everyone (except the Italians, who had already used ALL of their allotment up ... by June). My training partner wanted to go to Zurich, but we started looking at the Eurrail schedule and determined that we'd spend all but like 4 hours on the train getting to/from Zurich.

So we opted into Copehagen instead. June, warm weather, and topless Danish women cruising by on boats all afternoon as we smashed waaay overpriced beers in the Harbor area. It was glorious in every way imaginable.

Still want to visit Zurich, though. Congrats on making it there!

Tell you what - Zurich was cool but your Copenhagen trip sounds a touch more fun than what I did today

Looking to go to the Tetons in the fall

Thinking bout renting a camper van or getting a nice cabin/treehouse type thing

Any ideas /suggestions

We’re going to bring our dog but obviously pets aren’t allowed In national parks so we’d be staying outside the park and kenneling when hiking

I liked it a lot there too, but definitely one of the most expensive places I have ever visited. When we went, there were tons of middle eastern types walking around in super high-end fashion etc.

We did a combined Black Hills / Yellowstone / Tetons thing a while back on the tail end of visiting and watching our daughter play volleyball at CSC a while back. It was mid-to-late September and the Aspen leaved were turning by the time we got down to the Tetons, and it was simply beautiful. Mrs. LHR and I both thought we'd timed the trip perfectly. Hope that helps.

Here's a screenshot of a dash cam video we took during the trip (taken on 09-24). I'd post the YouTube link to it but it would dox me.

Regarding renting a camper, we have a travel trailer (currently looking at upgrading to a fifth wheel), and if you've got zero experience with campers and their water/electrical/tank systems, it can be a bit of a learning curve. I'm happy to help with the edumacation process so you can more confidently proceed on that path if that's the way you choose to go. Plenty of good apps out there to help you find campsites appropriate for your camping method and budget. DM me if you go down that path.

I’M SO FUCKING JACKED RIGHT NOW!!!

Just talked to the owner of this resort and I’m about to book my dream vacation! Probably go with this 1st “resort” but I have to talk with another one to see if they can beat no.1’s price. Not 100% sure exactly when we’re going, either August this year or January 2027, and I’m going to document the whole trip with my go-pro! So jacked!

This place is an option too…

Lastly this video is pretty awesome, it’s an Australian couple who are taking their dream vacation to fish for giant peacock bass in the Amazon. I might book this exact resort too. Some decisions and details need to be hashed out, but this shit is happening!

N. How much?

This and fly fishing for golden Dorado in Venezuela are on my bucket list.

Depends on the resort. For one week, 7 nights and 6 days fishing it’s between $5500 - $7500 per person. This includes everything but getting there. If you split the difference on the resort costs at $6,500 your total cost is about…

✅All inclusive resort costs - low end $5000.00 USD to higher end $8,000 USD so I’ll split the difference at $6,500.00. This includes: 4-5 star Hotel for 1 night in Manaus, Brazil. Charter flight to the resort deep in the Amazon. 6 nights of lodging, 6 days of fishing. Bass boat, guide, fuel and some basic tackle. All meals, non-alcoholic drinks, some include alcohol some don’t. In all case I’ve found the lodges to be AC, WiFi and very nice.

✅ International air fare to Manaus, Brazil (rd trip)- $400 - $1100. Once again I’ll split the difference at $750.00 USD

✅ Brazilian visa - $80.90 USD

✅ Tackle and Equipment - ? ($200-500) $350

✅ Gratuities for resort staff and guides - $40-50 a day? Call it $50, so $300.00

We find a resort for $5,500.00 a week that we like, that price goes down to…

$6,980.90 per person.

We used to catch the shit out of them when I lived in Florida. I never got a really big one, but you roll up on a school and you can catch dozens of 3-15 lb dolphin fish. And those are the best eaters! From what I remember the largest bulls don’t school regularly, they fish more like a solitary predator. But I never caught one over 12-15ish lbs.

One of the tastiest saltwater fish for my money. Sea bass, swordfish and red snapper are the only ones that come close. Grouper is really good too!

Don't forget halibut or ling cod or @BugeaterInWa might fight you.

So many good VRBO places in Jackson Hole and the area. We stayed at a brilliant one in the summer a couple years ago - right off the square. Did a ton of hiking trips, kayaking, biking, just fantastic.

We found a dog friendly place, but in the end decided not to bring him. Love the Tetons, beautiful area.

Fantastico! We are doing a VRBO in the Black Hills - hitting The Badlands, Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sylvan Lake (the last three days). One of my favorite places.

We did Yellowstone and Tetons a couple years ago - that part of the planet just hits me.
