TPB Travel thread

@Flabio i just got back. My wife and I agreed that it was the best vacation we’ve ever taken. So much to do and see. In six days we:

-Snorkeled with sea turtles, multiple different kinds of fish, an octopus, and a shark. All this after rowing in an outrigger.

-Drove the road to Hāna. https://roadtohana.com/

-Drove/hiked to the summit of Haleakalā, the largest inactive volcano on earth (my favorite part of the trip). https://www.nps.gov/hale/index.htm

-Had the best poke in the world

-Relaxed at multiple perfect beaches

-Experienced amazing culture/people

-Top class resort (Grand Wailea)

10/10 would recommend. Rent a car/SUV and go wild.

I’ve got to figure out how to get back to Kauai. Either just going to be the wife and I. Or take the crew in a few years. Planning for two is a lot easier than 7. If only I could keep it in my pants…..

I would love to hit Kauai next. That or the Big Island.

Oahu seems like I can live without

We went to Maui last year and Big Island three years ago. Both are incredible. Big Island definitely quieter and not as busy with tourists.
If/when we go back. I thought about the Big Island. Loved the low keyness of Kauai. Rent a jeep and explore.

Wife and I agreed. If we ever hit the lottery big. We’d disappear to Kauai.

I too survived The Road to Hana. We did the full loop at the time even though the rental car company said not too 🤣.

lol that’s awesome. We didn’t have time to do the full loop. How was the road after Hana?
This was a few years ago but it was a combination of poorly maintained dirt and asphalt roads with a lot of pot holes. Luckily, I wasn't driving so I just got to take all scenery in.

There was four of us and my two year old niece at the time and all her gear so my sister-in-law rented a mini van that actually did quite well considering 🤣. It was worth it though to see the different landscapes on that side of the island.

That is one thing I will always remember about Maui is all the different environments/climates/landscapes you can experience in one place.

We went to the Big Island in December and loved it. Stayed at the Four Seasons in Hualalai, cannot recommend it enough

Felt completely disconnected from the ins and outs of the world. Was amazing.

Same! We stayed in Weilea, which is as close to heaven on earth as it gets. The you go to Hāna, which is freaking rainforest. Then you go to Haleakalā, which puts you through about five different climates/plant life in an hour. Then you drive to Lāhainā, whoch shows you the other side of the west side of the island.

Just an incredible island. That black sand beach was mind-blowing and crazy as hell to get in.

Awesome! Did you get nailed at your resort with surprise significant resort and parking fees? Someone was telling me they showed up to one of the islands at their resort and they tacked on over $1k for these two. Thanks for the ideas. Will let ya know how the trip to Kauai and the big island goes this summer.

I hope you have a great trip!

Yeah, the resort fees and valet parking fees are what they are. I think the resort fee was $55/day and valet parking was $75/day. You can’t really avoid that at any resort unfortunately.

That said, the resort was A+++. Just the grounds alone were impeccable and made you feel like you’re in luxury. The pools, waterslide, and private beach was amazing too.
