I think that's probably an indicator of troubled code too.
It creates its own backstories and continually feeds from a pool if ideas.
It is possible that this piece of data was extracted from the pool, but was left without a flag indicating its use.
That would allow a future block of code to extract pieces of the same backstory accidentally(?).

Of course I'm assuming (likely a little naively) that the AI would use an approach we "humans" would understand.
It's more probable that the flag is not a binary indicator at all - it's probably something more multi-dimensional-array-like (something of a nth degree relationship based on the level of complexity in the possible "human" interaction with the extracted idea). Maybe the flag evolves as more and more "humans" are exposed to the concept?

I'm probably wrong though.
