1927 - Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees hit his 60th run of the year, becoming the first player in MLB history to reach that mark and established a new single season record as a result. (The record was broken in 1961 by Roger Maris with 61, again my Mark McGwire in 1998 with 70 and then Barry Bonds topped it with 73 in 2001.)
