1804 - Franklin Pierce, the 14th president of the United States, was born in Hillsboro, New Hampshire.

1889 - The first jukebox was installed at the Palais Royal Saloon in San Francisco.

1914 - The seven-month U.S. military occupation of Veracruz, Mexico, ended.

1936 - The first issue of Life magazine hit newsstands.

1943 - During World War II, United States forces seized control of the Tarawa and Makin atolls from the Japanese.

1945 - U.S. wartime rationing of meat, butter and other foods came to an end.

1954 - The Dow Jones industrial average finally surpassed it's pre-crash high - 25 years after Black Tuesday - when it closed at 382.74.

1963 - President Lyndon B. Johnson proclaimed Nov. 25 a day of national mourning following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

1971 - The People's Republic of China was seated at the U.N. Security Council.

1980 - A series of earthquakes devastated southern Italy, killing some 2,600 people.

2000 - In a setback for Al Gore, the Florida Supreme Court refused to order Miami-Dade County officials to resume hand-counting its election-day ballots. Meanwhile, Gore’s lawyers argued in a brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court that the high court should stay out of the Florida election controversy.

2001 - An Israeli helicopter fired two missiles at a van in the West Bank, killing Mahmoud Abu Hanoud, a leading member of the Islamic militant Hamas group.

2006 - Former KGB spy Alexander Litvinenko died in London from radiation poisoning after making a deathbed statement blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin.

2008 - The government unveiled a bold plan to rescue Citigroup, injecting a fresh $20 billion into the troubled firm as well as guaranteeing hundreds of billions of dollars in risky assets.

2011 - Yemen's authoritarian President Ali Abdullah Saleh agreed to step down amid a fierce uprising to oust him after 33 years in power.

2016 - President-elect Donald Trump selected two Republican women who’d had unflattering things to say about him during the campaign: South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and charter school advocate Betsy DeVos to lead the Department of Education.

2020 - The federal government recognized Joe Biden as the “apparent winner” of the Nov. 3 election, formally starting the transition of power; President Donald Trump still refused to concede and vowed to continue a court fight after General Services Administrator Emily Murphy gave the green light for Biden to coordinate with federal agencies ahead of his inauguration.

1896 - Nebraska defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 28-0.

1907 - Nebraska defeated Doane 85-0.

1912 - Nebraska defeated Oklahoma 13-9 to finish the season at 7-1 and won the Missouri Valley Conference (2-0).

1918 - Camp Dodge defeated Nebraska 23-7.

1929 - Nebraska defeated Kansas State 10-6.

1940 - #8 Nebraska defeated Cockeye State 21-12.

1946 - #18 Oklahoma defeated Nebraska 27-6.

1957 - Oklahoma defeated Nebraska 32-7; NU finishes the season at 1-9 and in last place in the Big 7 (1-5).

1963 - #10 Nebraska defeats #6 Oklahoma 29-20 to win the Big 8 (7-0).

1967 - #5 Oklahoma defeated Nebraska 21-14; NU finishes in fifth place in the Big 8 (3-4).

1968 - #14 Oklahoma defeated Nebraska 47-0 to finish the season at 6-4 and in 4th place in the Big (3-4).


1971 - The Washington Senators announced that they would now use the name Texas Rangers after their move to Arlington, Texas.

1972 - #4 Oklahoma defeated #5 Nebraska 17-14; NU still wins the Big 8 at 5-1-1.

1973 - #3 Oklahoma defeats #10 Nebraska 27-0, finishes as Big 8 runner-up (4-2-1).

1974 - #1 Oklahoma defeats #6 Nebraska 28-14; NU finishes as Big 8 runner-up (5-2).


1984 - Boston College defeated Miami (FL) 47-45 on quarterback Doug Flutie's now-iconic 64-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass.

1985 - #5 Oklahoma defeats #2 Nebraska 27-7; NU finishes as Big 8 runner-up (6-1).

1988 - Wayne Gretzky scored his 600th NHL goal.

1990 - Oklahoma defeats #10 Nebraska 45-10; NU finishes in 3rd place in the Big 8 (5-2).

1991 - The Sacramento Kings ended the NBA's longest road losing streak at 43 games.

1991 - BYU quarterback Ty Detmer finishes his collegiate career with NCAA records of 4,031 passing yards in a season and 15,031 for his career.

2001 - #14 Colorado upsets #2 Nebraska 62-36.

2007 - Colorado defeats Nebraska 65-51; NU finishes the season at 5-7 and in 5th place in the Big 12 North (2-6) in what would be Bill Callahan's final game as head coach.

2013 - Nebraska defeats Penn State 23-20 in overtime.

2018 - Cockeye defeats Nebraska 31-28; Scott Frost finishes his first season at Nebraska with a 4-8 record and a fifth place finish in the Big Ten West (3-6).


2018 - Phil Mickelson claims a $9 million winner-take-all prize in a dramatic matchplay golf duel with Tiger Woods; the match went to a 22nd hole before Mickelson claimed victory.

2019 - Nebraska defeats Maryland 54-7.
