1962 - The NFL entered into a single-network agreement with CBS for telecasting all regular-season games for $4.65 million annually.
1982 - In one of the most iconic moments in NFL playoff history, the San Francisco 49ers defeat the Dallas Cowboys 28-27 in the NFC Championship Game when tight end Dwight Clark made "the Catch", a fingertip reception from Joe Montana with 58 seconds remaining in the game.
1982 - The Cincinnati Bengals defeat the San Diego Chargers 27-7 in the AFC Championship Game dubbed the "Freezer Bowl" as temperatures were near 10 below zero with a wind chill of -37.
1986 - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of the Los Angeles Lakers scores his 34,000th career point.
