1965 - The Boston Celtics defeat the Los Angeles Lakers in five games to win the NBA championship.
1974 - Tampa Bay was awarded the NFL's 27th franchise.
1981 - Seattle Mariners manager Maury Wills is suspended for two games after ordering Kingdome grounds crew to enlarge batter's boxes by one foot.
1993 - The New England Patriots select Washington State quarterback Drew Bledsoe with the first pick in the NFL Draft.
