1. Six Top 15 teams lost Saturday, and 34 ranked teams have lost through five weeks.
Of those six Top 15 losses, three came at the hands of fellow top-15 teams (Alabama beat Ole Miss; Georgia beat Arkansas; Cincinnati beat Notre Dame), but that's the most top-15 losses on a single day since October 4, 2014. The 25 ranked losses through four weeks were the most in the history of the AP Poll (since 1936). Nine more ranked teams lost Saturday.

2. Alabama has scored at least 30 points in 31 consecutive games, tying UCF's FBS record.
UCF set that record from 2017 to 2019. Alabama's latest performance was a 42-21 win against Ole Miss. Ole Miss recorded just one offensive play longer than 20 yards Saturday after recording eight such plays in last year's game against the Crimson Tide. Nick Saban is now 24-0 against his former assistants as head coaches.

3. Georgia's defense has allowed one touchdown through five games.
The Bulldogs shut out No. 8 Arkansas 37-0 on Saturday, the program's largest margin of victory over a top-10 team. It was Georgia's third shutout of a top-10 team and first since 1976, and it also gave the Bulldogs consecutive SEC shutouts for the first time since 1980. The Georgia defense has allowed just 16 points through five games (UAB also had a pick six).

4. Kentucky beat Florida at home for the first time since 1986 and is on a seven-game winning streak for the first time since 1977.
The Wildcats had just 224 yards in the 20-13 win and went 1-for-9 on third down, but they returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown and Florida committed 15 penalties for 115 yards. Kentucky is 2-2 in its last four against Florida after setting an SEC record with 31 consecutive losses to the Gaytors. Dan Mullen is the first Florida coach to lose twice to Kentucky since Doug Dickey in the 1970s.

5. Stanford is 5-1 against top-three teams since its 2007 upset of No. 1 USC.
The latest was Saturday's 31-24 overtime win against No. 3 Oregon. Before that 2007 USC game, Stanford was 3-19-2 against top-three teams from 1936 to 2006. It's the fifth time since 2001 that Stanford has knocked off a top-10 Oregon team.

6. Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa threw one interception through four games, then threw five INTs against Cockeye.
That included three picks in a span of eight passes in the 51-14 loss to the Cockeyes. Cockeye's defense has forced at least three turnovers in a half three times this year. The rest of the Big Ten has done that once. It was actually the second consecutive week a team had four turnovers in a quarter, as Wisconsin did the same against Notre Dame last week. Cockeye quarterback Spencer Petras became the first Cockeye QB with multiple passing and rushing touchdowns in a game since Brad Banks in 2002.

7. Jim Harbaugh won as an underdog for the first time at Michigan.
Wisconsin closed as a 1.5-point favorite, and Michigan won 38-17. Michigan had been 0-12 as a betting underdog since Harbaugh took over in 2015, the only FBS school without an upset win in that time.

8. Wisconsin is 1-3 for the first time since 1990, Barry Alvarez's first season as head coach.
After the Michigan loss, the Badgers have been outscored 65-20 in the fourth quarter this season. Wisconsin's first four drives totaled minus-7 yards, and the Badgers finished with an average of 1.3 yards per rush (including sacks).

9. LSU quarterback Max Johnson passed for 122 yards on a single drive.
Johnson completed all six passes on the drive, which technically went 91 yards, but included a 10-yard holding penalty and a 22-yard loss on a botched snap. Hence 122 passing yards for Johnson on the drive. He finished 26-of-46 for 325 yards with one touchdown and one interception, though Auburn won in Baton Rouge for the first time since 1999.

10. Penn State is the first team to start 5-0 after starting the previous year 0-5 since Tennessee in 1989
That's according to ESPN Stats & Info. Penn State's latest win was a 24-0 shutout against Indiana.

11. Pittsburgh has scored 40 points in five consecutive games for the first time in program history.
That includes all five games this year, most recently a 52-21 win against Georgia Tech. Quarterback Kenny Pickett has 15 touchdown passes over the past three games, breaking Dan Marino's school record 13 in 1981. Pickett's 17 touchdown passes over the last four games also set a school record.

12. Oklahoma State has held four consecutive opponents to fewer than 100 yards in a half.
The latest was a 99-yard first half for Baylor in a 24-14 Cowboys win. Oklahoma State's defense has allowed fewer than 50 percent of third-down conversions in 16 consecutive games, and it has held 14 of its past 16 Big 12 opponents below their scoring average. The Cowboys have won 75 consecutive games when holding their opponent to fewer than 20 points, the second-longest streak in FBS since at least 1980.

13. Tennessee averaged two points per play in the first quarter against Missouri.
The Vols ran 14 plays in the first quarter with 3:24 of possession and led 28-3. Tennessee is outscoring opponents 71-13 in the first quarter this year. Tennessee won 62-24. It hadn't scored more than 24 points in an SEC game since it had 63 against Missouri in 2016.

14. Nevada's 41-31 win at Boise State marked the most points allowed by the Broncos at home in a Mountain West game
The last time Boise State had given up 40 points in a home conference game was 2007, also against Nevada, but that was when both were members of the WAC. Saturday's loss ended Boise State's 20-game Mountain West regular-season winning streak (the Broncos lost two conference championship games in that span). The Broncos are 2-3 for the first time since 2001. It was also Nevada's first win at Boise State since 1997.

15. Georgia Southern scored 66 points in its first four games, then scored 59 in a win against Arkansas State.
The Eagles fired head coach Chad Lunsford earlier this week after a 1-3 start. Of those 66 points over four games, 30 came against FCS member Gardner-Webb. On Saturday, the Eagles had 540 yards and 8.6 yards per play, including 503 rushing yards and 10.1 yards per carry. They averaged 4.7 yards per carry entering the game.

16. Michigan State has two punt return touchdowns this year. The Spartans returned only four total punts over seven games in 2020.
Jayden Reed took a Western Kentucky punt 88 yards for a TD in a 48-31 win. It was MSU's fourth-longest punt return touchdown in school history. The Spartans have returned six punts through five games this year.

17. Three winless teams won their first game of the season.
Navy beat UCF, Florida State beat Syracuse and Ohio beat Akron. There are four winless teams remaining: Arizona, Connecticut, Massachusetts and UNLV.

18. There was a one-point safety in an NAIA game.
Lindsey Wilson College had an extra point blocked, but it was picked up by a Cumberland player outside the end zone, and he was then tackled in the end zone. As of 2013, such a play had only happened four times in college football history (one JUCO game, one NAIA game, two FBS games), including the 2013 Fiesta Bowl.

They swarm, they're fast, and they're physical. If you like defense, they're fun to watch.
