SXSW: A Shot in the Dark

Excuse Me Wow GIF by Mashable

I wish! I went down with my friends' band like 10 years ago and had an absolute blast at all the "unofficial" shows up and down 6th street.

One of our neighbors and his wife are going and we were just talking with them about it earlier. They're both in the porn film industry and are there for that aspect.

I've been to a few SXSWs both as an artist and spectator. Going for fun is great, going as an artist blows.

We were there the year Metallica played a "secret" show at Stubb's BBQ. I put secret in quotes because it wasn't an officially announced show, but everyone knew they were playing. My friend and I were waiting to cross the street on the side of the venue and were leaning against a semi trailer. As we were waiting, an obviously live, instrumental version of Seek & Destroy started blasting from inside the trailer we were leaning against. Metallica always warms up by playing a few songs on a full instrument setup backstage, and this just happened to be their backstage at Stubb's. It was a pretty cool experience.

I whacked off tremendously!
