I don't think I have seen this posted yet, but who are our favorite recruits? For me, I'm keeping transfer separate.
1. DL Riley Van Poppel - He is a 4-star everywhere except for Rivals, where he is a 5.7 3-star. At 6'5" 275, the kid has the perfect frame. He is a high motor player that plays with good leverage. I love everything about this kid and think he is an All-Conference type player. I know this is a crazy comp, but I see Aiden Hutchinson.
2. DE/OLB Cameron Lenhardt - Technically, we don't "know" that he is in yet. But Lenhardt is an EDGE player that we need in the Big. He has good hand use and can hold the edge. I don't necessarily see Lenhardt as an elite pass rusher, but he is an every down type DE.
3. OLB/DE Princewill Umanmielen - He has all of the tools to be an elite pass rusher and should be a lot of fun to watch in Tony White's fast and attacking defense. He can run well and should be used well in this system.
4. LB Eric Fields - Both Rhule and White have gone out of their way to talk about how excited they are about Fields' potential. The kid is an absolute missile. Obviously calling him the next Lavonte David is a heck of a compliment, but he is cut from the same clothe - an attacking LB that just has a nose for the football.
5. WR Jaidyn Doss - With only three years of production, he had nearly 1,000 yards rushing and over 2,000 yards receiving. They guys is a playmaker. I also really like his frame to potentially play early too.
6. WR Malachai Coleman - No one questions his athleticism. He is absolutely elite and has all of the tools to be an elite player. Could end up being the best player on this class and no one would be surprised. But also could never see the field at all and no one would be surprised. High risk player, extremely high reward player.
Sleeper: OLB Maverick Noonan - I've been a huge fan of his since he came on the recruiting scene over 2 years ago. Is it racist to say that he is the kind of player that Cockeye and Wisconsin have killed us with for years?
Top Transfers:
1. OL Ben Scott - Whether it is at Center or Tackle, he is better than anyone we have right now. OL is the biggest weakness on the team and Scott addresses a huge problem.
2. DT Elijah Juedy - He is a good fit for a 4-man front and should pair up well with Ty Robinson. Those two could be a force together.
3. QB Jeff Simms - Depth at the QB position was big need and Simms potentially provides more than depth, a competition. Worst case, he is a quality back up. Best case, he surpasses a quality QB in Casey and takes the offense to a new level.
4. S Corey Collier - Safeties are arguably the most important position group in White's defense. Having quality safeties that can come up in run support is vital. Collier should be able to help with just that. I actually see him filling in at the Nickel pretty well.
5. LB Chief Border - I actually still like our LBs quite a bit with Henrich and Reimer. But with Hausmann gone, having another LB that can run is vital.
Edit: After doing this exercise, it is clear that defense was where most of the attention was given. We could really use another OL transfer and TE transfer too to help the offense get to where it needs to get.
