My brother got jumped by roughly a half dozen rednecks in Guthrie because he had the gall to bring his black date to the bar to play pool. Cracked him over the head with a bat and proceeded to kick the shit out of him before they ran.

I feel far safer living in Brooklyn than I ever did in one of those backwoods towns full of insular rednecks.

I've spent 12 years there. Rural Oklahoma I can absolutely see that mindset .. Not so much in Tulsa ( where I lived ) and OKC , however .. But even in those metro areas, there is definitely a "good ol boy " vibe with some and did notice a lot of racial undertones in conversation .. Rural areas it was much more blatent
