I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried and I think it’s naive for any Husker fan to declare that he won’t leave. We are talking about a guy that has always left when a big opportunity came or what he felt was the right one.
I’m probably being pessimistic but if he gets offered the job, I expect him to leave. It’s his Alma mater post death penalty. Franklin brought talent and a good culture there and it’s his home.
What I will say is this, I’m thankful that he came to coach here. Nebraska is now in a situation that if he leaves, will be the best opening for us in the past 20+ years. Bo had fans and a good track record and Nebraska was blamed a bit for his firing. Riley didn’t improve the program but did have a good season. Frost took a struggling program and buried it. Thankful that Rhule has turned the culture and has us on an upward trajectory. We could go get a good football coach and I think Dannen is a good AD that would make a good hire.
The best case scenario is that we go 9-3 10-2 and even if Rhule leaves, that’s a hell of a place to be replacing a coach from. Embrace the team, let’s root for success and let the chips fall where they may.
