You have to REALLY fuck up to get fired at this stage of the season (1 week before fall camp). No school wants to trash their season at this point so close to the season. It has to be really egregious.
Depending on the school it could have major $$ implications: tickets sold, parking revenue, concessions revenue, apparel revenue....could hurt local businesses if attendance drops, hurt your school's TV ratings and on and on.
Even NW - it looks like they clearly did not want to fire Fitz. Until they had to.
If Fleck did enough to actually get shit canned 1 week before fall camp....wow. I'm skeptical. But man am I hoping for it. 🙏

It got especially weird when he started yanking it and players heard him muttering "Ken" over and over. "I love your plastic surgery" is where players drew the line.

I wasn't implying that they had.
I was only making the point that as much as I'd love to see Fleck get shit canned (and dear lord I would), that it almost has to be extra egregious to get terminated at this stage.
I feel like college admins would rather suspend at this point on the calendar than actually terminate.

If you know you need to fire anyway why would you suspend instead of fire? Can’t see how it helps anything. It would make things worse if what the coach did clearly calls for termination.

If it's egregious enough then you have to terminate. I'm not talking about that level, I'm talking a level below.
Remember, we have NW as our model. They CLEARLY wanted to go the suspend route on Fitz and hope it goes away. But they ended up feeling like they had to terminate.
But you're right, if you know you need to fire then you have to fire. My point was in the grayer area below that (the area NW tried to put Fitz).
