Looks to be getting a complete overhaul. And if you sit and think about it.....it really is needed. Why? My thoughts...
Held is out. Wasn't cutting it outside of recruiting. (But did he really recruit his position all that well?)
New coach coming in. I think it is to his advantage that there will also be new faces to work with and not just a big group of guys leftover from the former position coach. IMO it means that we won't really know who can emerge and be 1st and 2nd string.
Rahmir: Completely average. He is going to have to earn his playing time all over again with the change in leadership and his middling stats. We have yet to see this amazing speed he supposedly comes with. Effort didn't seem to be a problem so that is good but will need someone else to get carries because he has durability issues. The big ten defenses can wreck even the most durable so it isn't really a dig at him to say it. Every team in the league sends 3-4 RBs into the meat grinder and then eventually the medical tent. It's just the way the league is.
Which brings us to Yant. Seems to have the body the teams needs. Doesn't seem to have the brain or the mentality that the team needs. I think it is completely possible that he just got replaced by Deondre Jackson.
Ervin didn't show much and now has an injury that not all dudes come back from. Could that be the reason that we are also bringing in a JUCO RB on the heels of the Jackson transfer? Ervin like Rahmir doesn't seem to be in line for automatic playing time now and is gonna have to show that he can overcome the injury and actually raise his game because he didn't show anything last year when the bullets started flying.
Sev and Marv ejected and for what? They both find themselves at lesser schools but in the exact same situation as if they would have stayed. They still have new coaches and both still need to fight for playing time. I wish both would have stayed and tried to fight at least through spring. I don't think they made the right call or were they told to move on? The revamping of the room might suggest that that is what is happening.
The new guys Jackson, Johnson and the possible JUCO all have a chance to play IMO. Frost has started young and inexperienced RBs in each of his 4 years. (With not all that effective results) Washington, Robinson, Scott III and Ervin all saw time as true freshmen. Frost won't be scared to use one of these new dudes if they can show well in practice. Jackson seems to have the weight that suggests he could be ready for action right away. I think he has the possibility to usurp Yant and we might see Yant move on before or during the summer. Johnson I think is the project recruit in need of development.
We also have something called a "Brody Belt" that seemed to get used more often that the much talked about star recruits. Probably contributed to a few of them leaving IMO. Tough dude but he didn't have any OSU LBs worried when they saw him check in to the game.
All things considered, a revamp is exactly what we needed and if that, and the OL can get fixed, will tell the story of how effective we can be with new talent at QB and WR.
Sorry so long, but it's not like any of you want to get any work done anyway. A few of you are just reading this in between jerking it.
