The Bo-Carl tandem was the best. Without Carl around Bo wasn’t as good. Carl and Marvin were the only two people who could question Bo.
He was the head corch when that happened
almost the entire 2009 defense was Callahan-recruited players. It doesn't matter much if Bo can scheme since his recruiting was shit (and his scheme didn't age well in the Big 10 or his second LSU stint)
Bo did recruit some studs early like Collins, Valentine, Moss, and Gregory. Those guys make Riley and Frost recruits on the d line look like total garbage.
I'd say Carl Panini and Banker where the most consistent and best overall. When Bo had Callahan's recruits plus Carl keeping him in check mentally we had some salty defenses. Once Carl was gone so was our defense under Bo. Some of our most embarrassing losses. I had endzone seats in Wisconsin for the Jet Sweep game and even the WIsconsin fans were questioning why our coach wouldn't make defensive adjustments to stop that play. Bo was too stubborn for his own good.
