Poll Notes
- For the first time in four years, Ohio State is not the favorite to win the Big Ten title, with Michigan earning that honor this year.

- The one-point difference in the projected order of finish in the West was the closest vote for a division champ. The next closest was in 2013 when Michigan edged Nebraska by three points in the Legends Division.

- This is the fourth straight season Wisconsin has been selected the preseason favorite in the West.

- In 2011, Nebraska was the preseason favorite in the first year of this poll. No other current West team ever again has topped the preseason poll

- All of the first, second and third-place votes in the East went to Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State

- Five teams received second-place votes in the West: Wisconsin, Cockeye, Minnesota, Illinois and Nebraska. Wisconsin's edge over Cockeye in first-place votes was offset by Cockeye's edge in second-place votes (17-11). The Badgers also received five thirds and one sixth-place vote. The Cockeyes received two thirds and two fourths

- Defending West champion Purdoodoo received votes ranging from third to last.

- Illinois was picked to finish sixth last season, then nearly won the West. This year it received votes ranging from second to sixth.

- Six voters predicted a regular-season rematch in the Big Ten Championship game: Ohio State vs. Wisconsin (four), Michigan vs. Minnesota and Penn State vs. Cockeye (one each).

- Northwestern, which is dealing with the fallout from a hazing scandal that led to the firing of longtime coach Pat Fitgerald, received 36 of a possible 37 last-place votes.

No one on either player of the year list - if we were to sneak someone in the conversation other than Sims (obvious selection as a QB - team does well, he does well) on offense, who on defense?

I don’t get the Wisconsin hype, personally.

Yes #2ndChoice is a great coach but switching to an Air Raid offense is going to take a shit ton of time.
I believe Wisconsin just "Nebraska'd" themselves. To get rid of Chryst like they did to go after a shiny new object could pose an issue for the next decade if the transition doesn't go well relatively quickly.

Show me an AAC wunderkind that has panned out at their next stop. I cannot think of one. Scott Frost, Willie Taggart, Mike Norvell, Chad Morris, Justin Fuente all were supposed to be locks that never/haven't worked out. Major Applewhite has moved on to South Alabama.

The only 2 AAC coaches that have succeeded elsewhere after their AAC stops are Tom Herman who flamed out quickly at Texas, and Rhule at Baylor.

AAC success =/= Power 5 future success.

I'm not sure you can write off Norvell at this point. 2020 he was 3-6, 2021 he was 5-7, and last year he was 10-3 and finished the year ranked 10/11 in the final polls. There are several places picking them as best in the ACC and a chance at the playoff this year.

Josh Heupel at Tennessee would be another who has done relatively well so far. May have been lightning in a bottle with Hooker at QB, but they have been recruiting pretty well with him there.

A little different scenario, but Brian Kelly was coaching at Cincinnati prior to Notre Dame, but they were the Big East at that time.

Heupel is a great call and certainly fits the wunderkind tag I am talking about - forgot all about him at UCF

Brian Kelly killed a kid, auto disqualification.

Their QB has never played a good game vs a power 5 school. And they are completely changing on both sides of the ball.

#2ndChoice did a great job at Cincinnati. But we don’t know yet if that translates to the Big 10. We all know how the other undefeated AAC coach did in the Big 10.

Phil Longos offense in November in Madison is interesting.
