OT: Shogun

Didn’t realize it was already out

Will watch

The first episode was a bit of a mess but the 2nd was much better. Looking forward to episode 3.

I started this show a few days ago. If you don’t mind subtitles, it’s a pretty cool story.

I wish it wasn't subtitles. They speak English when they're allegedly speaking Spanish. Don't know why they couldn't do English for Japanese too.

Portuguese. The Priests would be speaking Portuguese, not Espanol.

And yes, solid show 3 episodes in. Looking forward to some on-screen pillow time from our female lead.

Just starting this tonight, almost finished with the first episode, solid so far but damn watching on youtubeTV there’s mandatory commercials every 7-10 minutes it seems like. Just brutal

Have you read the books?

Just downloaded the audiobooks and they clock in at around 60hrs total.

Looking forward to starting them. Love Japanese history.
I have read it twice. Excellent book. The 1980 miniseries is also v good

Have read them all multiple times over the years and love them. Went to Osaka castle last summer because of how big a piece it plays in Shogun.

If you end up liking his writing, you’re in for a treat. Tai-Pan also rules (about the UK opium trade and founding of Hong Kong). I like Gai-Jin better than Shogun (Japan immediately after Admiral Perry opens it up to trading, so basically a spiritual successor to Shogun). Noble House v good too (corporate takeovers in 1960s Hong Kong).
