Herbie’s Hangout OL preview

So much variance out there on the line this year. Could be one of the best we've had since joining the conference, could only be slightly better than last year.

Piper-Scott-Nouili/Luto should be able to hold it down. We haven't had a good enough interior to support two developing tackles. You've got the two highest ceiling kids on the roster (imo) playing tackle under a guy with a good OL rep in Rhule. Maybe three if you believe in Teddy. I don't think they'll have a better chance to succeed than early this year. If minnesota has a weakness on defense it's their DL - esp. pass rush. Colorado's DL might be one of the worst units in the P5. The staff sandbagging Teddy tells me they're confident in what they've got at tackle and in Lutovsky and they're pretty good evaluators.

There was that info the other day from someone that knows Teddy’s family that he was still growing and was closer to 7/0 than 6-10. If he was in the NFL he’d be the second tallest guy in NFL history. You have to wonder what impact that has on him.

@ShortSideOption I think you made a bit of a mistake. According to Rhule, Corcoran has been their starting LT the whole time he's been there. I'm not sure it was much of a "move him back" at all this fall.

Should have played basketball.

Teddy was starting at LT until he got hurt, which was only a couple practices. But yes, Corcoran basically played LT the entire time Rhule has been here, but once they cleared TP for the fall they moved him for a few practices, only to move him back.

Any word on how the o-lineman actually look in practice? Do they run like they have rocks in their shoes or are they athletic? Or do they look retarded?

I think there was a game last year when our guards pulled and ran into each behind the center

lol I will say they do look better athletically in my opinion. But man there is a lot of defenders playing in the backfield against us.

I have no inside information but to me, it certainly seems like the OL did not work enough on run blocking to be good at it last season. Whipple was pass happy and his run game was amazingly pedestrian. This season they are committed to running the ball so that is going to help them. The line will be better this year, not great..

What is interesting is that we have had at least two practices for which attendance by NFL scouts was made public, and in both cases it was noted they spent their time watching the OL.

Watching Scott and that’s about it.
Nouili too. Large human who can move.

I also imagine they're flagging Luto and a few of the pups to have on their radars.

There is a healthy amount of NFL prospects in that room. Keep in mind, I am saying prospects not guys who are likely draft picks now. Raw talent wasn't the problem...It is getting it developed to play in the best line conference in college football.

With Rhule's reputation it's not surprising that there are guys in that room and the DL room that COULD develop into NFL type guys.

Yeah I have said for a while now, the one position group I have the highest conviction in Rhule getting to a very high level is DL. OL would probably be up there if we weren't coming from such a hole.

You thinking the WR add another 400 yards+ just on jet sweeps alone?
I was thinking that but our jet sweep WR Betts quit the team again

Not sure if we have a Jet Sweep WR on the roster anymore, unless Coleman can fill that role
