Baseball Official 2026 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread (43-17)

Yeah not sure what the point is, I don’t think Christy was it and Rob may be passed it.

Whatever may be the case I have full trust in WB to do what he thinks does or doesn’t need to be done.
Christy was a DAMN good pitching coach and got us wins when our offense was struggling and took the fall from so many fans. I would take him back in a heartbeat TBH

So... we can do better than both?

Or, one is clearly better while the other is, maybe, past his prime?

Feels like Childress using us as a comfy job to ride out his last few years until retirement. Give me someone young and hungry.

Rob & Amanda invested very well while in College Station. He's set for life without working another day. It's sad to see the on-field results. The dude was a legend under DVH and did so well at aTm.

I felt Harvell should've been the one fired following the 2023 season, but understood why he was kept (recruiting) and Jeff wasn't (scapegoat). It made sense, Rob Childress was already on staff & wanted the PC spot, not sure how anyone could've said no. One of the best to ever do it in college baseball, but it just hasn't happened in the return to Nebraska in 3 seasons.

Now that the season is over; 3 seasons each as PC for Nebraska - Rob Childress & Jeff Christy.

Presented without comment, yet...

** Disclaimer - a lot of the above was stolen off of X from earlier this season. I included 2026 full season stats.
Nothing too glaringly different unless I'm missing it.

What am I missing?

@Jim14510 is it possible to move the posts on page 4 in to the season thread?

I didn't realize I posted in the portal thread & my bad fellas for screwing this thread up.

I'm probably not giving Christy enough credit for that 2021 staff but take that group out of the equation and it's pretty close.

Walks are up but whip is similar so kinda whatever.

Jeff recruited, from the 2021 pitching staff - Povich (Friday starter), Hroch (Saturday starter), and the leverage arms of Frank, Bunz & Wynne. He also recruited Olson, who was a true freshmen bullpen arm in 2021, ended up 2023 Friday guy & 4th round pick. Braxton Bragg is another from that staff, although he committed to Erstad he de-committed then came back in the fold with Christy. (Transferred to DBU after 2 full seasons in Lincoln, then a 8th round draft pick).

Yes, Schwellenbach was already on campus but he hadn't thrown 1 pitch for Nebraska before Bolt & staff showed up.

Also of note not on the 2021 team; Christy recruited *portal* Jace Kaminska (10th round), Brett Sears (7th round), Mason McConnaughey* (4th round), & Carson Jasa (TBD) as well as catcher Josh Caron (4th round) while scouting arms. IDK about you, but the Christy recruits > the Childress recruits. The only 3 or 4 1st team all B1G pitchers from Nebraska 2021-2026 are Christy recruits.

* Rob played a large hand in it, as did Mason's family maybe on a larger scale.

Carey Named Finalist for Brooks Wallace Award
Huskers.com

Nebraska's Dylan Carey has been named a finalist for the 2026 Brooks Wallace Award.

Carey, the second Husker finalist in program history for the award honoring the nation's top shortstop, is one of five finalists. The award, presented by the College Baseball Foundation, is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980 and died from leukemia at the age of 27.

Finalists, which include Carey, UCLA’s Roch Cholowsky, Georgia Tech’s Carson Kerce, California Baptist’s Chris Ramirez and North Carolina’s Jake Schaffner, were identified based on their combined offensive and defensive performances from this season. The 2026 Brooks Wallace Award will be announced on Saturday, June 13.

Coming off a stellar senior campaign that saw him earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Big Ten honors, Carey turned in a .353 batting average with 16 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, 65 RBIs and 53 runs scored. The senior shortstop became the program's all-time leader in career doubles this season and is the ninth Husker in program history to reach 200 career hits, 150 runs and 150 RBI.

Carey was equally impressive in the field, committing just four errors in 216 chances for a .981 fielding percentage while turning 29 double plays at shortstop.
