Are d1 and D2 both 8-man? How in the heck did ainsworth fall to such low enrollment?

Bennington 49, Elkhorn 14

Arapahoe, Dundy County-Stratton, Hi-line (Eustis/Farnham/Elwood) and Hitchcock County are all absolute WAGONS.

It’s like the Big 8 in 1971, these 4 teams would probably finish the season ranked State Champ, runner up, 3rd and 4th.

and they are all in the same smallish part of the state

kind of amazing

Arapahoe has always been terrible. It’s bizarre

And Cambridge use to be always be a powerhouse and they are 15 miles apart. They probably had the best c teams ever in the 90s football wise.

Cambridge is without a doubt the nicest town I've ever been to in rural KS or rural NE that is that size. (pop. <1,110)

Cambridge has like 4x the money as towns similar size in the similar area of SW NE and NW KS

PS: Wife reading over my shoulder and she agrees

Cambridge could have beat class A a couple years when they had Ed Thompson. He was the best athlete I’ve ever seen

I was in jr high when they played my school Sandy Creek in the semi finals. We had Brian Shaw and a stud team. We got ahead 2-0 and was down 8-2 at halftime. They ended up winning 40some to 2. That was their closest game and only time they were behind the whole year. They ended up beating Laurel-concord something like 77-0 in the finals. You’re right, Ed Thompson was a stud.

Dude could two handed dunk easy as a fresh. He would have made people forget about everyone but Tommie had he went to NU

That was my senior year. Down to our 3rd string RB. Not a lot of depth on a 30 person roster. We got crushed by Bloomfield the first round. They lost in a close game to Laurel. Cambridge won 73-28. They definitely destroyed everyone that year.

Our basketball team choked against you guys in state. Didn’t you have two twins. We were suppose to repeat.

The year before maybe? We lost in Districts to Lincoln Christian my senior year. Jr year we made it to semifinals.

It was the year before then. We were the big favorite to win state. We were loaded in all sports in those days. One of my best buddies married a woman from laurel. It’s funny because I think she got a divorce prior to that from Christina Houghtellng’s brother and they are from Cambridge.

What school? There were brothers on my team. A Sr and a fr but Sandy Creek was really good that year too with the Kissinger brothers.

I thought Laurel-concord had two brothers that played out or their mind the year they beat us in state. Maybe they weren’t twins. It was Shaw’s senior year because we won it all the prior year in 94 I believe. There were numerous Kissingers. The brothers are Jerald and Brian. Both went to Kearney for college and did well. Brian had the daughters who were all D-l players. They had a cousin kipp that was an all American at Nebraska Wesleyan. Jerald and Kipp were seniors the year we won state basketball in 94. Brian was older. Kipp refs a lot of big college basketball games these days. He has done a final 4 for sure. You also had Shaw, Herbeks, and other great players then.

I went to Yutan not Laurel. That's the confusion. I was at Wesleyan same time as Kipp. Those were the brothers I was referring to. That Wesleyan team was a fun team to watch. Kipp had springs for legs. Won division 3 that year. Final 4 was in Roanoke Virginia and a bunch of us road tripped down there. Lost my job at Hy Vee for that trip. Mitch Mosser and a tall guy from ord that I'm drawing a blank on the name now were both really good too. Think Mitch is coaching in Omaha area. Maybe Elkhorn.
