These are names to keep an eye on...

They are being added and subtracted as we hear them. This list is in no particular order:

  • John Butler – I don’t think he’s done anything this year to make me excited about this move. I do think this year was a hire to potentially replace White when it was originally made.
  • Geoff Collins – Struggled at UNC, Temple, and Georgia Tech, but was historically a good defensive coordinator, regularly ranking in the top 25. Recent history hasn’t been favorable, though. This is speculation as a Rhule connection
  • Brett Venables – It sounds like his seat is getting hot. Could he be looking to step down and move on, or might he just be fired? There’s a relationship between him and Dana. There is a wave as Slatt has said of older coaches who don't want to put up with the NIL and other aspects of being a HC in todays world. I could see BV as a guy who looks to step down and go back to just coaching with limited responsibilities.
  • Elijah Robinson – A young, up-and-coming coach from the Rhule tree. He doesn’t have a long track record in terms of results, but he is regarded as one of the top defensive line coaches in the nation. This is speculation as a Rhule connection.
  • Jim Leonhard – This sounds like a possibility.
  • Rob Dvoracek - I don't think this is right as it would be way early, but I expect Rob to be a DC some day.
  • Gary Patterson
  • Joe Klanderman
  • Scott Symons
  • Zach Arnett
I will also mention that there are a couple of rumors circulating that lead me to believe this may have been more of a Rhule move than a White move. It sounds like we’re looking to increase our spending on the assistant coach pool. Another rumor suggests there was friction between Rhule and White following the Indiana and UCLA games. It seems Rhule is looking to make a philosophical change on defense.

Given that I believe this to be the case, I would expect Rhule has been working on this for some time already.

WRs coach names
  • Lonnie Galloway is the wide receivers coach for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels football team
  • Daikiel Shorts is the wide receivers coach for the University of Kentucky Wildcats football team. I would have as the high favorite. Hired
  • There is one that would be universally accepted, but trying to get confirmation.

Defensive Line name

  • Frank Okam - Coached with Rhule at Baylor and Carolina. Would be a good hire.
  • Phil Simpson - Being hired as OLB
  • Chris Kiffin

Wondered about this. Going to a 2-10 FSU team to me moreso says "mutual" split or Rhule initiated. Typical move here would be to jump to a DC position for a CFB contender, not a guy who could be out of a job next season.

I agree with both of you… the reason to be optimistic (if you aren’t thrilled with the idea of Butler) is that Rhule won’t promote Butler if he doesn’t trust he will win with him. And I’m not sure he does.

That said, not having a DC for signing day will be brutal.

Of that list i would go
1) Leonhard
2) Venables
3) Elijah
4) Collins
5) Butler
6) Rob (Think he will be a great DC down the road.)
I think I would switch 1 & 2.... Don't get me wrong I would be thrilled with either.

I just think BV has coached in national championships and would be more likely to be here for a longer period of time.

Part of me thinks Leonhard would be candidate #1 if Wiscy opens up again which is pretty likely after next year.

Dont get me wrong they would both be great hires.

i think i had my blinders on from his time as a HC.

Kinda lol I did
I mean Clemson’s fall off directly correlates with him and Tony Elliot leaving. Venables was the highest paid assistant coach in the country for a reason. Not sure how Venables would be under Leonard after failing at OU while Leonhard hasn’t even been calling a defense for 2 years.

Ya I don't get the move. That is really the only rationale I could think of.

There is a high probability they are both looking for a job at this time next year.

Dana at OC and Venables at DC?
