Mertz is nothing more than a check-down artist. Take away Ferguson his TE, and he's totally inept.

I watched parts of the game. I didn’t see any stats. Maybe he only shined when I was watching because he hit every pass. I was surprised after what I saw from him last year.

He looked like shit against Illinois because our OL was shit and he got rattled. He looked good against Fordham because the FCS guys couldn't beat up on our OL like the Illini did.

If the line improves it will most likely be on the pass blocking side. Frost isn’t serious about running the ball. Martinez isn’t going to win games slinging it in the BIG even if he has time. He will find ways to make mistakes.
