Was expecting this. Guessing 1 more will be leaving, probably Gates. Matty A is a hell of a Salesman but maybe we need someone who can also coach. Would be great to get an Asst Coach who is known for developing Big Men. Feels like every game in the B1G we are going to a Gunfight with a Knife when you compare the teams Centers to ours.

Lots of directions they can go. One big front court problem has been that Walker is a nice pick and roll guy, but limited on the defensive end and Andre has the potential to be a rim runner/rim protector, but just isn't there yet. The other one is that the stretch 4s, they've recruited offer little by way of rebounding and rim protection and also almost nothing in shooting (maybe Wilhelm is the.guy who solves that, but TBD on injury)

Mutually agreed is some nice legalese when he was basically fired mid season for something they aren't wanting to disclose.

I mean....I also mutually agreed to break up with the head cheerleader in high school after she decided to stop seeing me 3 months before.

next domino will be Gates, then Doc. Or is Doc even considered a coach? He's listed as 'official Fred Fluffer' on Huskers.com...

Names we need to be thinking about for replacements????

I don't have any names, but it'd be nice if they could hire a coach with Big Ten experience who is a bit outside of Hoiberg's comfort zone.

I have always been a fan of having a Defensive Presence/Shot Blocker in the paint. Allows perimeter Defenders to be more aggressive with steals and jumping passing lanes because they have protection at the rim. Andre had moments where he blocked some shots but he has so much to work on in development. He's so new to the game and just looks almost like a baby Deer learning to walk at times. His footwork and hands need so much work. Footwork is so important for a Big and Walker has great footwork but just not the length and explosiveness to block shots or rebound with bigger B1G players. Nothing took my confidence away more than having my shot blocked, hated that. After college I played in a Rec League with a guy who played Center in college. He was a great shot blocker, and I just knew not to even drive to the hoop cuz he would embarrass me.

I still remember watching a Kansas vs Oklahoma game where Kansas was up by about 20 pts over Oklahoma in the first half. The second half Oklahoma put in some JUCO recruit Center who couldn't make a shot from more than 3 feet away but he was a high energy leaper with long arms that could really block shots. Changed the whole game as every drive by KU was contested or blocked in the 2nd half. Eventually took away a big part of KU's offensive options making their offense very predictable thus easy to defend. Oklahoma came back to win as KU was more or less limited to mid range jumpers or shots from further out. He owned the paint. Second part of that equation is you need a secondary player that can rebound because if your Center is contesting shots he typically will struggle to get back into rebounding position potentially leaving the opposing Center uncovered under the hoop for easy Bunnies.

The staff hires were total misses by Fred. Gates is lazy and doesn’t like putting in extra work with guys. And Matt was just a recruiter. Then Fred wanted to take more of a backseat approach to coaching and basically had Gates, loenser, and Sadler doing a majority of the hands on coaching. What a total waste of 3 years and millions of dollars. Fred should be fired for his record here but also for the enormous fuck up that was how he built his program. This isn’t getting fixed under Fred.

Armand Gates had B1G experience and wasn't part of Fred's circle. I wonder if Doc will move on. When Doc was at Kansas filling a similar position Bill Self really liked what he brought to the table. He didn't want to lose him from their staff as he had quite a bit of respect for Doc.

Keita will be a huge part of their game plan next year if he ends up coming here. Robin made it sound like a few of our '22 recruits could say adios with Matt leaving.

I assumed that Gates would be outgoing too to go coach with his brother. It's clear that the playing with one hand tied behind his back (aka an assistant who doesn't really coach) didnt work for Fred and it seems like he needs more coaches who really understand the grind that is big ten basketball

I don’t believe for a second any players have much of a relationship with Turtle. He just knows how to grease palms to get access to players & make $ drops. These guys aren’t leaving bc Turtle isn’t here. This isn’t even close to how Kenya Hunter built relationships & players followed him bc they had a lot of respect for him. Turtle is a shady dork

Something needs to change. Fred is a very respected coach in the coaching industry. Kansas has long considered him near the top of their List of coaches to replace Bill Self if he ever leaves.

Looks like Self is going to dodge a bit of the big sanctions for the Recruiting Scandal. Rumor has it he may end up getting hit with some penalties like not being able to coach in the Post Season for 22-23 seasons. Heard there were talks of him sitting out the post season this year but once the KU team started looking like a potential contender they shelved that.

Every staff this day and age seems to have at least 1 Hired Gun Dirty Recruiter. Even Northwestern had a coach that dished out some cash, saw that with my own eyes. I believe Hunter was ours back in the day. Players might like him more than Matty A but they both were filling a similar role when it came to greasing palms or AAU Teams. Hunter did seem quite popular with the players, well liked. Notice how Xavier Johnson eventually ended up at Indiana playing for Kenya. I think NIL will even the playing field a little bit since now paying players is legal

Did Tim Miles ever hire a bad assistant?

Kenya: Indiana
Michael Lewis: UCLA
Rashon Burno (for 15 minutes): ASU now HC at NIU
Chris Harriman: Cal
Craig Smith: Utah HC
Ben Johnson: Minnesota HC
Molinar:i OU to BC
Phil Beckner: very well known consultant in pro hoops

You'd think hiring to a shit program like Nebraska would at least produce a few stinkers who aren't in high major basketball anymore

& your leaving out Ben Johnson & Niko Medved (on staff not a full time asst)
Timmy probably got a raw deal, 2 4th place regular season finishes in the Big10 is something we may never see Agsin in a 4 yr span
We had an opportunity to get Fred, at the time it seemed like a can’t miss
